no more 3.73 axel??
no more 3.73 axel??
was in the dodge.ca web site configuring a 2004 dodge diesel HO, and noticed a few things that were diffrent...
1. cannot configure a 3.73 rear end with the 6 speed
2. "add full size spare" Hmmm... does that mean we get a Mickey Mouse wheel and tire?
3. box delete
not much of a price change though...
edited to add... it appears you can configure 3.73 on 2500 pickups, not on 3500 srw. sorry for the confusion...

Re:no more 3.73 axel??
I was looking at dodge.ca a few days ago (wishing I had the money) and I am pretty sure 3.73 was the standard, with 4.10 being optional.
Did you have the off-road package selected? (I think that only comes with 4.10s)

Re:no more 3.73 axel??
when configuring a 3500 truck with the srw option you cannot configure a 3.73 axel
you can configure a 3.73 axel on a 2500 (yes, it is standard)
I ordered my 3500 srw on aug 29th, it STILL isn't in yet... I had ordered it with the 3.73. I wonder whether I will get the 3.73 or the 4.10 now??

yes, I did order the 3.73 with lsd. the truck was supposed to have been shipped sometime last week. The problem I find with the order process is you have to trust someone else to input the information. there is no confirmation on my order slip I have the 3.73 rear. I built my truck using the on line configurator (2003) presented that to the dealer and told them I want this exact truck. Whether EVERY option was translated I have no idea...
there is no sense in getting too wound up about this until the truck actually arrives...

Re:no more 3.73 axel??
I think you are missing what some are saying. The 3.73 is standard with a 3500 and is never listed separately on the sticker or any place else. The 4.10 is an option and if a truck has a 4.10 it is listed.
Trying to configure a truck on the Dodge web site is next to impossible until you somehow figure out what is standard equipment and they never tell you what is standard or included with some of the packages. Good Luck.

Re:no more 3.73 axel??
yes, that is the way it used to be. now when you configure a 3500 with the diesel option it automatically selects the 6 speed and the 4.10 if you try to select the 3.73 it says it is incompatable. website glitch ???
Re:no more 3.73 axel??
I think if you went to the dealer and talked to the folks that actually input the orders, that you'd find:
1. 3.73 is standard with and w/o limited slip
2. 4.10 is standard with the offroad package
3. A 3500 SRW 4WD QC 6 speed HO is available with 3.73
I agree; sounds like a web site glitch. anyone seen a dealer lately? Thats what we need here to know exactly what's going on.

Re:no more 3.73 axel??
My understanding on the 3.73 rear is that there is a shortage with those gears when the LSD option is selected. DCX must be tripping if they didn't think people wouldn't want LSD.
Re:no more 3.73 axel??
I just went back and tried configureing a 3500 quad cab short bed slt srw, and it had a 3.73 as default. I didn't bother trying any other cab/bed configurations, as I should be going to be now... :P
Re:no more 3.73 axel??
I noticed the 3.73 thing also. Could configure a 3500 short bed with 3.73 but the 3500 long bed automatically selects 4.10 and adds $50.00. After seeing that, I called my dealer and asked about my order which was placed on Monday. 3500, long bed, single rear wheel, 3.73, limited slip. She said the order went through just fine, no "red flags" saying that it couldn't be done. I guess I'll find out, kind of like finding out exactly what HO engine will be sitting in the engine bay.
