newbie question

I am a convert from the duramax to CUMMINS. So far I'm lovin it!!! I dont know a whole lot about the cummins yet, but I'm learning. My question is what is this silencer ring I have read about and where exactly is it located. I am going to by the AFE 2 and have noticed everyone takes out that ring. Help would be great. thanks in advance

The silencer ring is in the turbo. It smooths out the airflow and prevents turbo noise. Not everyone removes it. Only those who want the noise.

Removing it only gives you more tubo whine. It does give you more HP.

When you take off the factory elbow at the turbo its held in by a snap ring and can be delicately removed with a flat head screwdriver don't hit the blades on your turbo Hope this helps I have an 07 5.9 with the stage 2 AFE intake and AFE boost tube it sounds amazing
