Does anyone know of a good dealer in Arizona??? for service work. I am completely horrified with what I am reading about dealers. I seriously hope I don't have too many problems.

I just went to costco and looked for 285/70/17 bfg ko's and the guy said they are no longer allowed to put bigger than stock tires on vehicles. They can only replace with same size tire.

I work in quality for a automotive supplier, let me tell you there is big money flowing back into DCX and the rest of them from their suppliers for warranty, they may tell you that it is not covered but they still will go after the supplier for payment. Even (NTF's) no trouble founds, cost the suppliers BIG TIME money. We prove that there was nothing wrong with a part that was removed for warranty, you still pay usually up to half the bill or more even though it was the dealer tech that made the mistake. Warranty is a big, big negotiation process which the consumer and the supplier usually end up loosing in.

I was at the Dealership a few months ago I asked the service manager if I went with larger tires would it effect my warranty he said he wasnt sure but said hold on 1 min. A minute later a DC rep came over which he just happened to be in this shop to check things out. I asked the same question to him, he told me any tires above factory specs will void warranty do to changing gear ratios amongs other things. He said if DC comes back and says you blew the rear end out and it was do to larger than recommended tires warranty will be denied also I mentioned i was thinking of putting 35" on, he stated DC doesnt even make a Computer flash to adjust the speedo and rpm's for that size, he said many things come into play when changing tire sizes. There for i am still on stockers and when i do get the tires I want they will be removed before I visit the dealer A pain in the neck but its worth keeping my warranty I think..my 2 cents

This just has to be the stupidest thing I have EVER heard! I am sorry but I will say it one more time a 3/4 or 1 ton truck should be able to handle 35's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had other trucks/suvs that ran way bigger than stock tires and no dealer ever gave me crap like this!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't it also come with different gearing and a different engine? That would be their excuse as to why it's not the same.

My local dealer has told me, as far as lifts goes. If it's done by them, or by the shop done the road that does it for them, and it's almost the same kit, they will warranty it. This lifted truck thing is the trend in this area and nashville. Both Dodge AND Chevy dealers are doing it here.
Ever here of "Southern Comfort" custom trucks?

I find this all a little hard to believe. The dealer here in Merritt Island Florida is selling a BRAND NEW 2006 mega cab with 6" lift, Banks setup, and 35" tires for $57K. I cannot believe the dealer would upgrade the truck like they did if it wasn't covered by warrenty. I think someone is blowing diesel smoke down someone's stack.

I put 295`s on my 06 2500 & got the dealer to reset the tire size to the 285`s. All he said was "wish I could have put in 295 but 285 was all I could do". I was alittle PS because he charged me to reset it. MY .02- I understand fully why dealers void waranty on some people`s trucks, but no one around here leaves stock tires on a work truck. IT WOULD`NT WORK!

285 is the biggest tire the factory computer can handle. which is why I figured that it wouldn't void your warranty. Right? WRONG. DC is just trying to void our warranties for any reason. And bigger tires are the most common change done to any truck. Why do you think they put those little pizza cutters on there stock? so when you need new tires you'll go bigger and then they can void your warranty. BS.

Thats why dodge ,gm and ford are all losing to honda and toyota because they don't try and pull this same BS.

I understand not voiding a persons warranty for anything bigger then 35" but anything smaller should be fine.

I know a fellow who wore out his stock tires, he purchased a set of BFG AT 265's as a replacement. His dealer told him that the TREAD was too aggressive and it would void his warranty. His reply - please put that in writing. Well, nothing in writing AND he had a problem with a wheel bearing of which they fixed without a further word regarding his agressive tread.

I think that if they feel they can bluff you through the BS that's exactally what they will do. If they get that you just might stand up for your rights a lot of the empty threats seem to go away.

My dealership farms out their alignment stuff. When I installed the KORE Leveling kit I went to the company they farm out alignment work to have my alignment checked/adjusted. Last time I was into the dealership the service writer mentioned my kit and how it would possibly cause me a warranty problem. I looked him straight in the eye and said "Well, you might be barking up the wrong tree, I had ..... company check out and adjust the alignment after the kit was installed, isn't that the same company you have do all your front end work?" The service writer stood there with his mouth hanging open and then said "Well, if it meets their inspection it must be OK". I have not heard another word regarding my suspension change.

I did contact AAM regarding the use of 35" tires on their axles. The reply I got from them was that in their opinion 35" tires should have no real effect on the performance of their product one way or another providing that there was no eccentricity in the wheel (out of round, bent) and the tires were balanced and rotated on regular intervals.

I wouldn't look too far into this, as it was only the parts guy who works behind the counter, and has nothing to do with your warranty.
I've had several warranty claims be it with my Ford or Dodge. Both had big tires/rims, chips, exhaust, and so-on.
I've never even been considered to being denied warranty. In fact, how many people have actually brought their vehicle in for a failure within its coverage, had it diagnosed, and been denied warranty?

Um, remember, "power wagon" is a gimmick misnomer. I has no power and is not a wagon.... hmmmm.

LOL !

At any rate, a 285 will not be an issue. I am sure that the policy originated with some of the huge tires people mount on the trucks. They will indeed cause ball joint and steering linkage issues.

Luke you are 100% correct, there are 2 sides to each coin; a dealership owner's side and a working man's side. It is pretty clear which side you are on! Your attitude of questioning someone's real need to have their $40K truck serviced so they can work the next day is a great example of the attitude that is loosing American auto makers the race. Its none of your business how the gentlemean makes his living, your responsibility SHOULD be to help this CUSTOMER regain his piece-of-mind with your product that he works hard to pay you for, instead of thinking of ways to Edit with him.
