New Purchase

Hello 3rd genners. I have been a 1st genner for some time now. Finally upgraded to a 2005 3rd gen. Much better ride. 2005 QC, SWB, 325/610, Laramie w/all options, auto, 410 lsd. I have been reading about some of the problems and other good/bad things on the 3rd gen posts.

So, I haven't noticed ANY vibes at 70 mph yet. Unless of course it is a slight one and since I am use to a 1992 truck, I expect it to be a lot worse so I don't feel it, LOL. Seems to be getting OK mpg since I only expect 16 - 19 or so due to 410 gears. Plus I haven't gone though even a 1/2 tank just yet.

Doesn't seem to take off as quick as I am use to though (92 had 325 rwhp). But I will admit, once it is going, it gets up and goes rather nicely. Old truck felt more 'sit of the pants' power but I think the new one speed picks up faster. Old truck could do 0 - 60 in 8.8 seconds though. Haven't tested this one, figure put some easy miles on first.

So, any TSB's or anything I can do quickly without spending $$ or voiding warranty to have it take off faster?

Seems to take a little bit to have it start. Old truck would start within a couple of turns on the motor. This seems more like a Hemi, turn, turn, turn, turn, fire up. Anything on this possible problem or is it just the nature of the newer beasts? Plan on running some additive to see if that helps at all. Not sure where they got their fuel.

What about location sticker saying when truck was built or CPL #?

What do most people do about the stupid coolers in the front? Open the hood and just looking in I have already dented a couple of fins on the coolers. Bad design not having something protect that area. I'm thinking of velcro'd rubber hanging over that section.

I think turbo ring will be coming off when the wife isn't looking

And I noticed a nice looking intake pipe some where for $50 which should make it sing a little more.

But for now, stock and enjoying the great ride it gives. I do like the power of it.

welcome.
It's just the nature of the beast to crank awhile before starting. alot depends on where the crank position sensor mark is when you start cranking. The electronic sensors have to approve the fire before it will.

engine build date is on the data plate on valve cover.

Some report that if the dealer reflashs the ECM you could loose fuel mileage and power, others say the truck runs the same. I do not know of any TSB's or reflashs for the 05's.

Enjoy your new truck.

I just ordered a guard from Geno's garage for just the reason you stated. Congrat's on the new truck.

bluebull,

I don't think the new trucks have CKP's. They use a cam position sensor now because of the pain in the a$$ that the CKP is to get out of the block in corrosive environments.
