Hi, guys, new member here from Indiana. Only found this forum a couple nights ago and love it so far - lots of great info. I've owned 2 diesels now (curently own an 05 2500 CTD and also had on 01 2500), but have left both units completley stock. Just starting to learn about mods, lift kits, etc. My 05 is my daily driver, but also does get used to pull my 21' bass boat and help move lotsa hunting equipment during the fall. I will not be entering any competitions or anything but I am getting anxious about making some mods (would like to add more power and MPG). Here are some ideas I am thinking about:

1) engine mods: S&B cold air intake; Bully Dog Triple Dog w/ Outlook Monitor; 4" MBRP "catback" exhaust

2) other mods: 2" leveling kit (Top Guns, Revtek, ???), some nice probably 33" AT tires wrapped around some Moto Metal, Helo Maxx, or KMC XD Diesel wheels, maybe some Bilstein shocks.

Since everyone on here seems to have much more experience than I do with all this, I sure would appreciate any comment/suggestions reqarding these mod ideas......and I will try to post a pick of my beast tomorrow. Thanks!

Hi Wez,

Well, now that you've found a forum, your truck won't be " bone stock for long "

Anyway, I'll try and give you info on what I know about.

(1) The S&B CAI is a very nice set up. It's one of the least expensive CAI's available unless you DIY like some do. That consists of PVC pipe for Home Depot. You'll have to do a search on that it you're interested.

The S&B really isn't a whole lot different than the stock filter box. It does have a bigger filter element and a bigger air hole in the box. It also comes with a torque tube to replace the stock tube that's full of restrictions. If you plan of big HP mods, you might want to look into a CAI that moves more air. Otherwise, you'll be fine with the S&B.

(2) Can't tell you about the Bully-Dog. I do know a lot of people use it but, keep an open mind as there's a bunch of programmers out there.

The MBRP is a very nice exhaust. There's also a lot of guys running it. I have it on my truck from the turbo back. I deleted the cat, resonator and OEM muffler. I also opted for the T-304 SS kit they have. If you live where the roads are salted or and other harsh environment it's always nice to have SS to not worry so much about rusting or turning ugly. Again, there's many other exhaust makers out there. Only a few make SS pipes though but, you can't go wrong with the MBRP.

(3) Leveling kits.... this all depends on how much money you want to spend. Top Gunz and Revtek are nice kits but, middle of the road kits. For top of the line you can look into Kore or Carli kits. Be prepared for sticker shock though !

There's several different AT manufacturers to choose from. Personally, I like ProComps. If you read around the forum, you'll find many like Toyo. IMO, the tire is completely your preference.

I have a set of Helo Maxx 8's on my truck. They're very nice, easy to clean and built very well. Again, your wheels will be completely your preference. I also have SS Bilstein 5100 shocks. They ride great, look nice and are one of the shocks mostly widely used on heavier vehicles... i.e., RV's, 1 tons. I would say you can't go wrong using them either.

Well, there you go.... hope that help get you going. Good luck and have lots of fun

I have a TST PMCR R49AP on my truck and love it, alot of fellas stack the TST and the Bully Dog and have great results!
I plan to do a AFE Stage II(PG7 Filter) intake this summer as well as a 5" turbo back exhaust.
For a leveling kit im goin with the Kore leveling kit.
Just givin ya some ideas on some of the other products out there!!
Have fun!!!

Question

****** - I did come across that homemade intake and it does look very well thought out and made. However, I am concerned about the amount of rain and snow I have this truck in up here in northern Indiana, and about getting stuff in there I don't want to....that's why I was looking at S&B and others that had a somewhat sealed airbox. Do I really need to be concerned about this?

IMHO No these trucks sit way to high to worry...but an easy why to stop water is to buy a outerwares pre filter
I will post the Part number in my intake thread this week.

Well, went out and tried to remove the silencer ring as I have read so much about on here. My father and I messed with it for 40 minutes before giving up....couldn't get the snap ring out, using screwdrivers, pics, etc. That sucka won't give! Forget it! Guess we'll look at the replacing the intake itself next....

I used a small but strong electrical flat head screw driver pry on the end of the ring just enough to grab it with some pliers and work it out from there...
