Butch from Dishman Dodge sent me this email:
"I have had alot of people ask me about Dodge going to a 6spd Getrag trany,the only truck that will offer this trany is our Dakota, We have no info or factory rep that says it is going in the 2500 or 3500 trucks."
Now we know that DC keep alot of things secret, but at this point it appears that the dealers don't know about any new trannys for the full size Rams.

Looks like it is true! 05.5 CTD get the G56 Getrag! I just got a pdf file that Dodge puts out from Robert Trottmann, that states the Drivetrain specifications.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with Getrag trannies. Aside from the fact that they feel like they're made of rubber when you shift them, they have this nasty habit of grenading. I'll stick to my 04.5 with the NV5600, thank you very much.
Keep an open mind, I remeber 2 years ago when every one was all wound up because they dropped Dana and went to AAM. "Never buy another Dodge" was all over the place. Well 2 years later I have heard of no real problems with the AAM axles, atleast no more then anything else. So wait and see, if they start dropping like flies then we can get all bent out of shape
It all comes down to price with the manufactors... Getrag played ball and NV didn't. However, the Big 3 never really consider what the end user wants. They always talk in refernce to "new and improved" or "robust", that translates to CHEAPER!
Well, now it appears the G56 tranny isn't a Getrag but a in-house design and is built by DC's CVD group. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...9&page=2&pp=15

Look at the 6th gear (OD)......its a even lower gear than the NV5600....
That means a higher RPM at cruise......kiss your MPG GOOOOOODBYE!!! The MPG sucks already, lets go ahead and make it worse!
And who need a granny gear like that??? Good lord, if you need that much gear get a bigger truck.
As for the clutch, its the material is a little thicker (whooptydo). As for the clamping area, its larger because the center section is smaller, giving a larger amount of clutch material between the center and the outer edge, but the total diameter of the clutch is smaller.
They had a virtually bulletproof tranny, now they want us to be the new guinea pigs.....nah thats ok.
I'll keep my NV5600 also.....

Don't forget this tranny is for the hemi as well. It probably will put that even lower granny gear to good use. It's peak torque is at something like 4200 RPM
I welcome the slightly lower OD. I think it will turn 285's - 315's better when loaded without going with the 4.10's. Just my opinion.
I'm worried about the dual mass fly wheel though. The dmax 6-shooters are having all kinds of problems with them, even stock.

Wait a minute! This page has a link on the right side called specifications that's a pdf file. In there it only has the Getrag 6 speed under the Power Wagon specs, not the 2500/3500 heavy duty

i've been following this switch away from new venture 5600, and am curious if anyone actually knows when it will truly be effective. i am having a hard time finding the exact model i want with a 6 speed and may have to order a 05 if i want it trimmed to my liking. i would rather give up some of what i want and grab a NV 6 speed on someone's lot than get the getrag. so, when will we really see these in trucks?
