New Components and now Vibration

I just installed new ball joints, wheel bearing hubs, u-joints, wheels and tires. I did all of this at once. I have not had it aligned yet but plan to this week. Since the updates it vibrates bad once you reach 60+? Could the front end alignment cause this or is it something else?

It is on a 2006 Mega Cab 4X4, auto with 140,000 miles

When you changed your u-joints, did you mark the shaft and yokes so they went back in the same position? If not, I'd suspect your driveshaft balance is off.

The u-joints were changed on the axles. I didn't remove the drive shaft. Does the position the axles are removed at have to be the same when they are reinstalled?

That one I don't know for certain. I would imagine it's somewhat balanced in one certain configuration, but I don't know if there's enough mass/diameter in the axle shaft to cause a vibration. Hopefully someone else with specific knowledge or experience will chime in...

Because the vibs only happen above 60 then I would think the alignment is probably the cause. Make sure the wheels are balanced.

The alignment was completed toady and it didn't fix it. The shop even tool the rear tires and placed them on the front and it seems to be following the wheels and tires. Have others had these issues with wheels that can't have weights placed around the outside of the rim? Can they be balanced better? The vibration is only between 55-60

If you're confident it's a tire/wheel balance problem, check out Centramatics or balancing beads.

If the vibration is transient (goes away over a certain speed) I'd find someone that knows how to balance your tires! Check rims for runout and if OK then look for a bad belt on one of the tires.

I ordered the Dyna beads tonight. I will install them this weekend and report back. Thanks for all of the suggestions. This is my first diesel and I can tell you I love a mega cab dodge diesel 4X4

Okay I installed the Dyna beads and the problem is still there. From 55-70 the trucks vibrates so bad you almost can't drive it. Tomorrow I'm going to head to a local tire shop to get there opinion if they can balance them or if the tires are junk? I'm at a loss here.

Talked to the place where I received the wheels and tires from and they suggested I torque each wheel down in 20 ft lb increments in a star pattern to help center the wheels on the axle. I did this and helped a lot. They are now sending me some hubrings to help center the wheels even better. I hope this my fixes my problems.

Figured out my new XD wheels are not centering themselves using the lugnuts. I now have hub rings on the way to center the wheels to the axles.

THAT makes sense! Glad to hear you've got the issue figured out.

Bad news. Hub rings did not fix it. The truck is now at the local shop trying for a rebalance.
