new 48RE short shifting & DOGS the mighty cummins

I just had my 48RE & converter in my 2005 replaced under warranty(surprise!) . with current finances I am grateful that I paid only $100 to have it replaced. Unfortunately so far the new trans is waay worse than the original as far as short shifting & hunting. I would not have thought you could never shift too early for a torquey Cummins engine, but this is ridiculous. When cold in the morning it does the hunt up down up down up down for the first two to three times. After that it just shifts too early. Even If I mash from a stop it shifts right into second and feels like the converter locks too because it DOGS! The mighty Cummins BAD!.

Short of telling me that I should have bought a $4000 aftermarket tranny& converter, which I know, but can’t afford. Help me to help the tech when I take it back. OR is there a simple TV cable or TPS adjustment ????

AS long as I am asking- I want this new trans to live and AFTER I get it straightened out I want to add a good pan and have a good converter installed. I THOUGHT about an aftermarket valve body, but the $500+ for one of those- is it worth that? I heard the current valve body modifier kits like trans-go are very good. thanx for any help, crossy

It's quite possible that the throttle cable connection down on the trans did not snap into place properly when the tech was buttoning everything back up after the install. I would start there if you don't want to bother with another trip to the dealer BUT honestly, I would be right back at the dealer with it until it was working right......

AND it's nothing but traffic lights where the dealer is so he should have felt it within 100 yards of the place.

I had the same issue with my 2000 after the shift kit install. Took it back and they had to readjust the TV cable or something like that. It was a quick fix.

There is no TV cable on an 05, the TTVA motor replaced it.

The shuttle shift could be the gov solenoid and sensor or something else.

From your description it sounds like the TTVA motor is not advancing the throttle pressure correctly or at all. Should check and make sure they installed it instead of leaving it just hanging there. Seen that before.

def bring it back and get it straightened out by the dealer. Drive it as little as possible. If the tv motor is not working right and not increasing line pressure that new tranny can burn up in no time. Take it easy and have them fix it.
