Neutral to Revers grind in 6 speed ???
Neutral to Revers grind in 6 speed ???
Still getting used to the 6 speed. I have two questions
#1 Why does the trans grind when going from neutral to reverse ? It doesn't do it in the forward gears, just reverse. If I shift from N to a forward gear, then right into R it doesn't do it. It gets annoying when people turn and look at you like you don't know what the hell you are doing.
#2 Why does my clutch pedal have to be practically to the floor for it to fully disengage ? Supposedly the clutch is new. It's a **** chore to use the clutch it's such a long stroke.
Any help appreciated, Thanks, Dan

Its a combination of syncrhos (try redline mtl) and junk master and slave cylinder.
I run a 12 Valve M/S cylinder setup on my 04.5 I can adjust to as much pressure as I need.
One thing I do though even today is push into 3rd while the clutch is pushed in, then while clutch is still disengaged pull out of 3rd quickly and slide it right into R.
It should slide right in with no issue.
I do this every time without issue!!
I know its a trick, but it works.

I have never driven a vehicle with a manual transmission that didn't grind when you tried to put it in reverse. My truck, since day one, has required me to push the clutch in and wait a few seconds before going into reverse. I think it's just the nature of the beast.
There are lots of heavy rotating parts with inertia that need time to stop. Reverse isn't syncrod.
There are no adjustments on a hydraulic clutch, either it works or it don't.
Fluid type will make a difference. Good synthetic might help.
Fluid change and an additive fixed this problem for me on my F*rd.

Now our NV-5600 6spd on the other hand, is a fully synchronized tranny. I have no problems going from a forward gear directly to reverse while the truck is slowly rolling. Sometimes you may have to blip the throttle to line things up a bit.
