Need replacement for 05 PSD

I have a fully loaded 2005 F350 dually diesel that I plan on replacing. It only has 13,000 miles but its time to go. I tow a 12,000# fifthwheel camper approx. 1,000-2,000 miles a year. It has a pin weight of approx. 2,400#'s. Can I safely tow this with a 2007 2500 quadcab SWB 4X4? I am tired of the dual wheels that's why the mileage is so low on my Ford and a local dealer has a few 5.9's on the lot. Ultimately, I would get a 3500SRW but that's not an option if I want a leftover 5.9 motor. Also, does the 5.9 have a EGR system? What is the unloaded vehicle weight of a 2500 quadcab, shortbed, 4X4? Any input would be appreciated.

the5.9 does not have an egr, so thats good and that truck will easily pull that weight fifthwheel. my fw is close to that and its no problem at all. my truck in my sig is 7750 with me(200lbs) and a full tank. good luck with your choice u WONT be disappointed.

My truck weighs roughly 7100-7200lbs with fuel and oil only, so there's you a reference. If you want to know if my truck will pull 12K, here are a few pictures for you. It's only 10K, but back home we pull our 13K goosenecks full of cattle regularly, and the trucks do JUST FINE.

Weight is on the receiver, rather than a gooseneck or 5th wheel, and the truck is level...pulled it just fine.

My 2500 is close to 7700lbs with me in it. The payload is rated at less than 2000lbs(1890). GVWR is 9000 lbs. I am sure the truck is capable of pulling what you are trying but it would not be within the door sticker by doing the math. The 2400lb tw sounds like you would be over the 3/4 tons payload rating.

Find an 07 5.9 3500 srw. A 2500 will pull it just fine. The 3500 will pull it just fine legally.

Many folks ditch the overloads on a 3500 and go with bags. Bag the 2500 and you'll be cool. You might also consider a Hellwig sway bar on either SRW model.
