Okay, leaving the brake thing out of it, what would you say was better with the 2nd gens compared to the newer trucks?
I'm not starting anything, but this is the first diesel I've ever owned and I love it, what could possibly be better about the older ones?
I imagine all the electronics in the new ones might be worrisome to some people but its also the electronics which make the new ones so great for HP gains, but what else?

Electronics mostly. Less emissions crap. The more electronics the more problems. Less MPG to. Less relieable. Everyone I know with a 3rd gen has electronics problems. My truck to date, no reverse lights, power door locks and windows messed, broken CD player, terrible radio reception. Broken wires needed soldering in the rear doors. And i'm sure there will be lots more suprises in the coming times. Not to mention, the control arms were changed and very stupid, to need to cut off a bolt to remove one.

Besides for the "nicer" interior compared to the 2nd gens (which is still very sub-par) the 2nd gen is far superior in pretty much every way, I think the only good thing I can say about the 3rd gen is the track bar setup is better, but not by much....Disc brakes in the rear, cost more to replace, and no better braking power.

Can't think of it all right now, but I know there is a lot more reasons I wish I kept my 01 CTD, 190k miles and not a lick of trouble, including electronics, my 04 only has 75k miles which are extremly babied and the electronics are going to ****. Did I mention how much crappier the paint has gotten? I look at my 04 and there is a scratch, going to have to wax it everyday pretty soon to keep it looking good

Okay, thanks Mocho, guess I've been lucky so far.
Didn't know that about the control arms either.
