iv been getting areally bad wheel hop in the snow, some times just trying to move. at first i thought it was snow buildup in the wheel, but that wasent it i cant think of anything that would cause this to be that bad. in second, at idle, slowly spinning the tires, it shakes so bad, im fraid its going to brake the dash off.


this is in wet heavey snow, in 4wheel drive, dident try it in 2wd

i dont want to spend $300 to $1000 for ladder bars.

 

try removing the lift blocks.....it also levels the truck out...there are some threads on here with pics and directions.
it's pretty bad when "heavy duty 4x4's" leave the factory like this...my 06 could not even go up a mild incline without trying to buck the bed off!!!

 

i have lift blocks? i dident know that! you think that will help? i dont know if i want to realy level it thow. would like to try to keep the stance just how it is.

 

This happened to me today too,trying to go up my driveway, about 100 ft long section blown in with hard drifts. I made it about 30 ft. and it was buckin so bad I just pushed in the clutch and let it stop. Well, bad move, because now I try and take off again and I go nowhere. So after about thirty tries back and forth, abusing the clutch, I finally back out of it. Well now I so mad that I back up fifty feet and hammer on it in second gear and then I make it, bucking the whole way. I did have a 92 chevy 1500 that would buck like this too.

 

its usually call wheel hop or axle wrap and is caused by the axle torquing the rear leafs into an S shape and then snapping back.....very hard on the u-joints and i would assume everything else....ladder/traction bars or 4 link are the only real fixs....good luck

 

yea, im scred to death im going to break something. + when your nabors see your big tough 4 by 4 diesel that you payed a arm and a leg for having a hard time getting up the drive way, its kinda emberising.

 

ya mine was doing some of the wheel hopping last night in the snow it wasnt too bad but it was not very fun. I will send you a pm on some traction bars you can check out that are reasonable.

Toque can be the problem, too much and you start bucking an breaking loose...Try a higher gear and let it idle up.

With all of this snow lately I have had the same problem with wheel hop. 06dually, it sounds like you and I have a similar driveway situation. My drive is a 1/16th mile long and it has several spots that drift in. When it gets bad we usually take the field and cut through the neighbor's driveway which goes east to west so it doesn't drift as bad. jwb600, I would be very interested in some information about traction bars as well.

 

I had this issue with my 98 dually and my 03 SRW. I haven't gotten to really try it out with the new dually 6-speed. It does suck when it happens......

 

Try 4WL. Spinning the tires is causing it.

 

Well, I spoke too soon. Just backing out of the driveaway in 5" of ice and snow the wheels were hopping like crazy. It did the same going forward but once I got some speed up it went away. I may look into some ladder bars or I remember reading about clamping the front of the leafs together and that is supposed to help too. That route may be cheaper.

 

I had a similar situation at the beach in the sand. Trying to move in the sand I would get terrible wheel hop in back, in 4H or 4L. What it looked like is the front wheel couldn't get up on the sand and the back wheels were trying to push the front through the sand causing the hop. I put on 285 BFG KOs and no more hop.
