Theres a tube that drops down from the motor and theres some oil around the bottom of it. Is it some kind of pressure discharge from the motor?
Anyone know what's the purpose of this thing? Is there any tell tail signs of problems from the motor?

I think what your talking about is the crank case ventilation tube. It comes down the driver side right by the starter? It will develop an oily reside being the hot gas it vents is coming from your engines internals.A drop here or there is normal and some slight fumes.If you start getting excessive oil or white smoke then you have problems!

 

Yup. And there will always be a drop hanging from it. On occasion you may find a small puddle under the truck. My 07 did that once after a long trip and it really scared me. It never did it again though....

 

Mine actually will drop 1-3 drops once a year or so. But I usually wipe it/clean it periodically anyway.

 

remodeling a house sent my guy under the truck to connect larger tube to fuel filter discharge hose. I said to him are you ready! he says yep. I opened it and fuel went everywhere. what the @!@##@%! i said. my helper..."but i connected the tube"....then from underneath the truck he says oh there another
tube down here. This is how i noticed the tube with the crap all over it and gave me some concern. Now i know what it is.

Yeah.. what was even funnier was my guy came out from under truck with diesel fuel all over him. He was screaming wait wait turn it off! turn it off!

and yes i was laughing my *** off
