my own 2 cycle experience
my own 2 cycle experience
not looking to start another battle over addatives, just giving my own experience. lately i have been driving to the coast alot, using the same route and same speed (70). this last week a read a thread about using 2 cycle tcw-3 in the fuel. it takes a full tank to get there and back and while i was there, i drove the exact same route to breakfast, etc. in the previous weeks my calculated avg mpg was 16.5 mpg. this last week, with the only difference being 2oz of 2 cycle per gallon of fuel, i avg'd 19.4 mpg. could be a fluke, could be actual. the truck computer showed 16.1 on previous trips and 19.1 on this trip so there is some improvement even if only minor... on this last trip the truck was 117 lbs heavier (wife and 10 month old).
the was no difference in sound that i could hear, just my $.02..

i'm going to try different things too. they say putting the tailgate down doesnt effect mileage, but on my 04 ford it improved 3 mpg and you could actually feel the difference in drag at speeds above 50, so ill try that too.
I don't think there's any logical way oil could improve mileage that much. I know that it hasn't done anything special for mine. There are so many factors that go into MPG that I really don't understand how people can pinpoint one exact thing as the deciding factor.
With all the buzz about 2 cycle oil, I have been doing my own testing with hand calculations and all and I have not experienced any of the benefits others claim. If anything my mileage may have gone down a bit. If my engine is quieter it's not enough for me to notice by ear.

If you can consistently average a 3 mpg increase you can come out ahead, even using that much oil. The problem most folks have when using additives is when you factor in the cost of the additives vs the actual gain in mpg, you lose money. Keep up with your results and hand calculate if you would as most folks just look the other way when you mention the overhead. I think the last two stroke I bought from Walmart was just under $7.50/gal out the door. On the plus side, the extra lubrication is hard to beat.

I'm not trying to debate with you.
I want to hear about anything that increases mileage. I can always stand more of that, it's just important to keep as many variables out of the equation as possible. That makes the results easier to understand and reproduce. Sometimes it's the little things that make the difference.

I tried the 2-stroke oil vs the 50/50 mix of Power Service and MMO on the same road going in two different directions. Approximately 300 miles one way. No residue of my usual PS/MMO was in the tank on the return, just the 2 stroke oil.
I lost almost 1 mpg using Walmart 2 stroke oil.
The vehicle had just at 10,000 miles on the odometer.
