Muffler removal? Warranty?
Re:Muffler removal? Warranty?
If it's not horribly loud I would do it for the lower EGTs and 1 or even .5 MPG. But if its loud I won't be able to deal with it.... Loud clackity diesel engine noise is fun but droning vibrating exhaust noise is not.
Re:Muffler removal? Warranty?
I've got 4" turbo back straight pipe dumped on my truck and it is INCREDIBLY loud, but INCREDIBLY nice sounding. I've never had a dealer give me any hassle on it. I don't think they care that much about exhaust. They didn't even say anything about my BHAF. Or my high flow banjos (when I had them).

Re:Muffler removal? Warranty?
All,
IMO here is my take on warranties. They are just like insurance. Most of the time when you need it they will find a reason you weren't covered. I had a 99 F-250 PSD for 4 years and put 163K on it. I took it to the dealer one time to get the ECM reprogrammed, that was it. That work was not covered by the warranty. Most of the dealers in this area anyway have high school kids or kids just out of high school that don't know jack about anything under the hood anyway. I did all maintenance on my truck and any repairs I needed I did myself or took to a good mechanic friend of mine. I waited until 100k to modify the PSD. I just bought a new 04 and am not waiting any longer than the $$ takes to come in to modify. I am starting the mods from day one. I have had it a week or so and the intake and exhaust are going on right away. I do no care a lick about the warranty. If they let you use it and they pay, great. If you have someone behind the counter at your dealership that looks at an AFE intake and 4" exhaust and say that is why your tranny went out and voids your warranty there is very little you can do about it. So MOD away. I will say this, if you think the stock truck runs good wait until you add all of the toys, like the new boxes coming out soon and a propane kit, etc. Sure you have to do the right mods in the right order but it's like driving a whole new truck everytime you add something. My mechanic told me "it's only parts". He's right. Enjoy your truck and make it how you want... and to heck with the warranty.

Re:Muffler removal? Warranty?
I can tell you I have heard a straight piped stock system and they have an awful drone to them. I would definately look at a 4" system if EGT's are a concern. A Scotty 3 will help reduce your EGTs more than cutting out the stock muffler.

Re:Muffler removal? Warranty?
My friend has an 03, I read in this forum about a month or so back how some of the guys really liked straight piping their trucks.
He went straight down and had his straight piped and he has loved it since.
He however is always on the inside. It is not to loud inside the cab, however on the outside
It is very loud at low RPM. I would say I have never heard a Dodge Cummins that loud before or since.
;D Just take it easy when you see an officer ;D
