Question Motor is broke in at 1600 miles????

I have a huge dyno butt and it's very sensitive to changes. When it did break in there was a small difference in power but the mileage went up 3 mile to the gallon. My 01.5 didn't get BOMBed till 10- 12000 miles or so after break in.

OK, so at 1600 miles with a 90 mph run from Indy to Cincy this deal is a new animal. When new she was a turd, a big turd. She flys now.

I run only Flying J fuel Now and can tell a difference with other truck'n fuel stops. NEVER Maw and Paw stations...

Also I had changed all oils and lubes through my 305 before the speed run to Cincy.

Has anyone else seen a difference is so few miles???

thanks

Yep. After a few months of milling around here in the winter, I notice a nice performance gain after a hard 100+ mile run. It was explained to me that when taking it easy, you get all sorts of nasty stuff built up on the valves and such. A nice long run that heats the engine up and really works it will burn everything off, enabling it to run a little better.

Might explain your experience. I don't think you could break one of these in at 1600 miles. It will take much longer than that for the rings to properly seat...then you’re broken in.

AR, I understand, I had the radiator blocked to run a little over half way. the Dyno day nexy week in INDY should time me how broken in it is. My understanding is a stocker 305 stick should be around 270 at the rears.

thanks

I think my truck is getting close to broken in. I have 23K on it since 9/11/03. My mileage continues to get better. My last tank was 18.4 pencil figured. Most of this was interstate driving. I have pulled it hard several times, but it seems to get better gradually.

I just wanted it to be known on my truck the difference was huge, never felt this much difference on 01.5.

I know there are alot of new owners out there especially the first timers when they drive off the lot or go for test drive there will be huge acceleration gains and mileage gains around the cover.

thanks

i just got back from a 2600 mile round trip to Texas and then let my truck sit for two weeks..hopped in it this am and it was (A) quieter when cold (B) smoother at idle and (C) more power (I also have a butt dyno and could really feel the difference.....I firmly believe that the manufactures (ALL MAKES) program predetermined increases of fuel, timing etc as mileage increases..just a thought
Cameron

p.s...during this trip mine clicked over to 15k...its funny cuz my daily driver/beater is a 04 dakota club cab 4x4 with a v-8 5sp stick and bought it to keep the miles down on my dually but EVERYTIME i hop in my dually...i just grin so...my dakota only has 700 miles on it (purchased in december of 03) and I still find myself driving my dually more than the dakota...

Before I changed my oil it was difficult to get much over 2K rpm w/o having to push the pedal hard. After my oil change I felt alot more power and it easily goes past 2k rpm now. I read somewhere that Daimler uses special break-in oils with high viscoscity. I'm assuming that's why.
