more cold start stuff

so, I changed the fuel filter a couple days ago and that seemed to cold start up issue. but then again today (8 degrees F) I had cold start issues. I forgot to ask about oil weight, I am still running 15 W40 in the engine, should I be swapping to 5 W40 synthetic? would that help?

I run an oil pan heater so I don't worry too much about 15W40 being in there

the thermostat you have, is it setup through an autostart feature? I have heard about some of those through some buddies who work the slope.

Why don't you just plug it in? The engine block heater works great. Below 40F and mine is plugged in all night.

yeah, i plug it in when I am home, but rumor has it I shouldnt have to, it should still start if it doesnt drop below 0. but even then, I know people who have trucks that start well below 0 without being plugged in.

Sounds like you need injectors. Ijust did mine it would not start once the temp got around the 40 degree mark so i pulled all 6 had them tested at the local injection shop and 2 were leaking internaly. I ordered 2 from midwest injection in Illinios for 357 a piece so far so good its been two weeks now and we have been seeing temps in the -4 area in the mornings. Two cranks tops and she is running it hasnt started this good for along time. Good luck with yours. Greg

how much does it normally cost to have injectors tested? I am really hoping thats not the issue, but it is starting to sound like it is. I left it unplugged last night to do a little test today. I hear that if you cycle the heating grids a couple times that helps. so I want to try that now.

i just tried starting it again, and it still wont start without being plugged in. so maybe I should have the injectors checked. but man, that sounds spendy.
actually, I also read somewhere that it might be the grid heaters, any idea how to test that, since that is probably cheaper than injectors.

All last year I was plugging the truck in, but the stupid thing wasn't working. Never had a problem starting, and I only noticed that it wasn't working when it got to -20. Truck still started, but it sure didn't like it.

so I am going to try this howes stuff, and see if I am just having a gelling issue, maybe from there I can determine if it is a fuel heating problem or not.

I picked some stuff up from an auto parts store, it says "one shot" on it, but is one quart of treatment. should I only put half of the bottle into my tank when I fill it up this time? it calls for 1oz for every 2 gallons.
