More 6.7L/68rfe info............

Thought this might be of interest to you guys? I edited out a few things that are not suposed to be public knowledge(such as dealer cost). This should hit the press tomorrow..........................

2007MY Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel and 6spd Transmission Pricing December 20, 2006

TO: ALL DODGE TRUCK DEALERS

SUBJECT: New Cummins 6.7L Diesel / 6 speed transmission
New 6.7L Cummins Diesel

6.7L Diesel Will Launch In January 2007

As many of you already know, the new 6.7L Cummins diesel is ready for production in the Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and
3500 models beginning in January. Due to stricter federally-mandated diesel emissions standards for the entire industry
starting in calendar year 2007, a new engine was developed with Cummins. This new 6.7L engine is based on the proven
DNA of the current 5.9L diesel, complies with the new regulations, and even complies with updated rules scheduled to be
implemented in 2010. It sets the performance standard in the diesel market with an outstanding combination of horsepower
(350 hp vs. 310 hp on the 5.9L) torque (up to 650 lb. ft. vs. 610 on the 5.9L), acceleration, NVH, trailer towing, drivability and
emissions reducing technology.

The required changes to the engine and exhaust to meet these stringent government standards result in significantly higher costs
to build the HD Ram. For that extra cost, this new, high tech diesel system will provide state of the art benefits to the customer including:

-Increased power, torque and fuel economy
-Significantly cleaner engine with B5 biodiesel compatibility
-50% quieter engine and a more refined interior environment
-50 states emission certification
-Only diesel to also meet the 2010 emissions requirement

6.7L Diesel Features

Some of the features of the new 6.7L Cummins turbo-diesel include:
-Electronically controlled Variable Geometry Turbo. This is a modern feature that
enhance drivability and refinement by:
-Precisely matching boost pressure with the engine’s needs
-Reducing emissions
-Creating a quiet and lag free throttle response
-Increasing altitude capability
-Providing exhaust brake capability

-Particulate filter that is self cleaning
-Cooled EGR system for reducing NOx
-Increased bore (107mm) and stroke (124mm) for more output
-A factory installed exhaust brake. This “First in Segment” feature has many
benefits, including:
-Increased vehicle control when towing
-Enhanced safety by reducing overheating and fading of brakes on downhill grades
-Extends brake life by as much as 3 times
-Designed into 6.7L and more efficient than aftermarket applications

The Cummins diesel on the Dodge Ram has always been an industry leader, and as you can see, this improved version is no exception!
We have raised the bar again in the HD pick-up segment with the 6.7L, providing world class power and refinement.

New 6 Speed Automatic Transmission

In addition to the new diesel engine, we are launching a new, refined, 6-speed automatic transmission for the diesel application. This is
something that you and your customers have been asking for and with this new powertrain system, we have delivered. Benefits include:

-6 speeds (68RFE) vs. 4 on the 48RE
Note: 68RFE is a lower cost alternative to the 6-speed Aisin currently
in the 3500 chassis cab.

-GCWR increase from 23,000 lbs. to 24,000 lbs.
24,000 lbs. is “Best in Class” vs. Ford 350 and GM/Chevy 3500 at 23,500 lbs.
Applies to all 3500, 4X4, 6.7L, 68RFE, with a 4.10 rear axle

-Optimal fuel economy and performance

-Electronic Range Select
-Enables customer to select gears that match driving conditions
-Provides greater control in unique driving conditions such as towing
heavy loads on severe inclines

-Superior launch capability (we have the best torque curve in the segment)

-Optimal shift quality, improved quietness and durability

Optional Price Increases
Due to the significant cost penalty for this high-tech motor, a price increase is necessary.

Diesel Engine price is increasing $495 on DH/D1, and $545 on DC, to $6,100 (The $545 on DC/DM includes the price for standard tow hooks).
Additionally, this price increase includes a STANDARD Exhaust brake, previously optional equipment on DC, and priced at $495. Typical
after-market exhaust brakes are priced at over $1,000. This is an outstanding value to the customer, is a class exclusive for Dodge, and as
mentioned above, provides more control and better brake life.

The new 68RFE, 6-speed automatic transmission will be priced at $1,575. This price is similar to Ford’s 5-speed transmission, and significantly
less than the GM Allison transmission. The most important benefit provided by the 68RFE is the increased torque capacity, which allows a new
torque rating 40 lb. ft. higher than the previous 4-speed, to a class-leading 650 lb. ft.

In addition to the diesel content and option price increase, we are implementing an “Ultra-Clean Diesel System” charge of $995 to the Rams
equipped with the 6.7L diesel. This charge covers a fraction of the cost of the new emission systems, and will show as a separate line item on the
invoice and on the Monroney. Displaying this charge prominently on the Monroney label will provide high visibility of the sophisticated emissions systems
on the Ram, as well as the significant cost of these EPA standards. This approach will give you a more effective tool for explaining the diesel price increase,
compared to a pure, option price increase.

Base Price Increase
Due to some Ram Models having a diesel engine as standard, the base price will
increased by $495 for the diesel engine

END OF EXHIBIT I

Luke,

Do you know if the standard exhaust brake is part of the variable geometry turbo or a separate component?

Yes it is. Basically the VGT acts as the exhaust brake, it just has to have some computer stuff to tell it what to do. Works REEEAAAAALLLL GOOD too! At least the ones on the cab&chassis I have.

Awesome! Thanks for the info Luke! Keep it coming, I just may have to put the old '03 out to pasture provided there are no serious bugs with the 6.7/68RFE. Although I really do like the old girl....

Maybe in '08 (or do I wait for the new body style in '09?, decisions, decisions...)

Got my finger crossed that they are awesome. I will look at them in a couple of years with the auto. A 4500 would be even better.

I'll be the 1st to say:

I won't be running out and buying one anytime soon!!!!

The previous years models have allways been overpriced, and this one's gonna be even more so. Not counting normal yearly-increased dealer mark-up, base price is more than $2000 higher than current models on the lot.

4500/5500 are being introduced in March. This quote here........

"(The $545 on DC/DM includes the price for standard tow hooks)."

refers to the 4500/5500. the DC is the 3500 series cab & chassis, the DM is the new 4500/5500 series.

I will have one late january. I have several ordered all ready and one of them is all ready on "D" status, which means the order is builable and being sequenced for production.

I won't be either, my 93' is running way to good and showing no signs of quiting just yet! But I am sure we will be selling a lot of them, and I'll be laughing all the way to the bank! Seems to me these days the majority of the buying public, the more gadgets and the higher we price em the faster they buy em. We'll at least the faster they finance them for 6 or 7 years! Besides, why should I buy when when I can go out and hop in one any day of the week and drive it without personally paying for it?!!!

I'm just wondering what kind of incentives the dealer's will have to offer to get rid of the '07's w/5.9's when they are being sold side by side?
