I've used my factory winter front for 2 years ( getting ready for #3) and I have never had a whistle problem from the factory bug deflector when its on the truck. BTW I have never heard of anyone saying they had a whistle problem when using there winter front. Attached is a photo of a Dodge winter front on another truck its just like the one I use and don't see how it could cause the whistle being its under the hood! Well it will not let me upload the photo being I did so last year so you can see it at this URL: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0&postcount=16

Well maybe I was imagining it.

Next time you have a problem with your truck, I'll make sure I chime in I've never had that problem, so it must not exist. Thanks for your valuable input.

.

A little harsh I think, Robert.

I have a little bit of a whistle when my winter front is on but not enough to bother me. This will be winter #4 with mine.
I leave 2 flaps open all the time. Tried with all flaps closed when it was below zero but the engine seemed to run too hot for my taste.

I usually put the cover on around Thanksgiving.

All in all, money well spent.

Best -

Steve

I just got back from 10 days in the woods and really am glad I put the cover on. My truck warmed up much faster and stayed warmer longer (between trips) than my dads 06 w/out the cover. I had all 4 flaps closed, thou never got above 20mph and 65* in 160 miles. Never got too hot, on the IAT or coolant.

Now that I am back in town I will keep all 4 open until it gets colder.

Oh yeah, I get the whistle above 70 mph, nothing that is loud enough to bother.

I still wonder why some have the whistle when the weather front is on and others do not!

I still need to put mine on, but I will be listening for the whistle just to see. I have the bug deflector.

Personal preference like it has been mentioned already. Need it? nope
I like the fact that the truck will warm up quicker using it and the block heater when it is sub 30 degrees. Plus the truck sounds and runs much better quicker. I hate all the clacking.

Like me saying why did you take the silencer ring out? I didn't and my truck runs super.

Like it has been said its preferance... but the truck likes warming up faster... your oil will last longer, your cab will warm up faster, and you should get better mileage from it (since your warm and efficient sooner).

I've used mine for three years, well almost. I'm on my second now, because the first one cracked near the bottom. The second one did it too. Has anyone else had this problem? I love how well it works, but I hate the cracks. What to do?

I've thought about getting this as some of my trips can be short and this would certainly help speed warmup. This thread has convinced me.

I'll probably get the combo package from Genos that has the cold weather front, two battery heaters and the block heater cord.

Any opinions on that?

My truck has the block heater cable already, and I don't see temps cold enough where the batteries are an issue, at least not with good batteries. All it would do for me is run my electric bill up.

I haven't plugged the truck in yet this year, but usually do so with a timer for 90 minutes. I am confident the truck will be much warmer after 90 minutes this year than last year.. I may be able to reduce the time to 60 minutes...

With my truck now in a garage I have yet to plug it in even though over night temps have been to 20 nor have I put the front on as the day time temps have been in the 60's. Anyway last year when I plugged it in at temps down to 10 degrees I saw no big difference in warm up time if the block heater is on for 60 or 90 minutes. I could get 50+ degree heat from the heater in less then 3 minutes of start up, I back out of the garage, idle at 1,000 RPM for about 2 minutes and then drive. Oh that is with the winter front on with 3 flaps open.

Last winter with about 90 minutes of operation I got coolant temps in the high 80's and low 90'2, depending on ambient and wind.. I would then fire the truck, they would drop 5*, but by the time I coiled the extension cord and got back in the temps were back to being warmer than pre-starting. I always had warm coming out the heater w/in a .5 mile...
