Question Model year question.

How or what is a 2004.5? My truck is built 7-2004, what is it? A 2004.5 or 2005? My title says 2005, so when I buy anything, what do I answer?
Thanks in advance.

If the title says it is 05 it's a 05. 04.5 up have a cat. 03-04's do not. Also 04.5 up have a 3rd injection cycle. Your build date also indicates an 04.5 up motor too.

Ok, cool. My engine build date is 7-2004 as well. I just order stuff as a 2005 and I'm good to go. Thanks, for some reason, I could not make myself understand that.

04.5 also came with the H.O. engine 325HP 600LB TQ. The engine sticker is located on driver side of the valve cover. They switched to this motor half way through the model year of 2004 to keep up with Ford and Chevy in power numbers.

Mine is the 325, I went and looked. Thanks for the reply....I was worried I bought something wrong.... You know, some mid-year changes are not so good.

Were the early 05s the ones that had the plastic intercoolers?

Don't mean to hijack, but I've been sort of browsing around looking for an 04.5 as next truck. Problem is, finding them is impossible in person (just about) and the ones I find online don't spell it out usually. Any easy way to check with the VIN #? I know how to tell a 98 to a 98.5 (thats how I got the one I've got now ) but haven't found anything about 04-04.5. Thanks!

04 or 04.5

I thought there was a vin number distinction on the 04.5's and 04's- maybe someone will know it
how else do you know if the truck you are looking at is an 04 or 04.5?

There are some elecronical diferences between the 04.5 and 05s as well. I honestly dont know exactly what but I had a 04.5 before this 06 and I had a performance box on it and tried to sell it to a guy with a 05 but it would not work on his truck. The 04.5s are anything with a build date after 1-1-04. They did not do it to keep up with Ford and GM but because of emisions standards that took efect. They had 2 engines at that time, one for California and anouther for the rest of the world. The 04.5 was a way to get rid of the two engines and have one that worked everywhere.
