Mobil 1 Synthetic in the Six Speed & Rear?

Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended 5w30 motor oil in the Six Speed ? I have 11K on the Ram and it is time to change it over to Synthetics

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube in differential?

I need something readily available and Mobil 1 is what oil I am going to use when I change the Cummins to Synthetic Oil.

Mobil 1 Gear Lube in the rear end is fine.

But for the 6sp, you need to run Redline MTL for it, or Pennzoil Synchomesh for the trans.

5w/30 is the close to the viscosity, but it doesn't have the extra stuff that is needed for the trans.

Does Mobile 1 have anything that is compatible for the 6 speed?

If not is Pennzoil Synchomesh Synthetic? What weight of synchromesh if there is more than one?

BTW Thanks jim

There are only a few part numbers that cross reference to the factory fill for the NV5600. Redline MTL, Penzoil Synchromesh, and, of course, 04874464 is the factory part number. The factory part number is for the NV3500 and the NV5600.

I just did a change of both diffs, tranny, and transfer case this week. I used the factory fill for the tranny, and transfer case, and Mobil 1 75W-90 in both diffs.

Go over and read this thread. You have to use a GL4 rated transmission oil in the NV5600, not a GL-4/GL-5 rear end gear oil. And, Motor oil doesn't cut it either.

BTW, The transfer case uses Mopar ATF+4 fluid. I believe the Redline C+ and the Amsoil ATF both meet the specs.

Pennzoil/Quakerstate (same company) Synchromesh and Redline MTL all meet the specs. Royal Purple Snchromax does NOT!

Just ordered 4 quarts of Mobil 1 75W-90 and five of the Penzoil Synchromesh. AutoZone will have them waiting for me this afternoon.

I will also pick up a 17mm allen socket from Sears just to have on hand.

Thanks for the info guys! jim

You better order more if you are going to change the front diff also.

Capacities:
Rear diff. 7.65 pints
Front diff. 4.75 pints
NV5600 9.5 pints

Torque specs:
Differential cover bolts 30 ft/lb
Differential fill plug 24 ft/lb

I am not sure on the torque specs for the tranny. I haven't done mine yet. Hopefully someone else will post those specs for you. The important thing is to be careful on the differential cover bolts. I have heard of quite a few being broken if you don't use a torque wrench.

Thanks for the help guys, It's nice to have all of this info and assistance readily available.

Jonesey If I only had an Axel in front that needed it I would buy some more to go in it. Mine is just a lowly 2x2 single Axel truck. I have Jeeps and really want an asphalt only truck.

I hope these fluid changes will make it shift better and secure the level in the rear that I have been concerned about of late. This and a fuel filter will do me until the next service due at 15K, that is when I get to put in the Mobile 1 SUV Synthetic Oil. Thanks, Jim

I switched the 6sp to the pennsoil syncomesh and the tranny shifts easier. Noted a big improvment at
3rd gear, which was becoming stiff before the oil change.

Ooops! I've got fourbyfouritis. It's a dreaded disease that makes you think everyone has a 4x4. The only known cure is to trade in the 4x4 for a 2wd.
