Miles and Interior noise

How come it seems like the more miles my truck gets on it, the noisier it seems to get in the interior? When I bought my truck w/ 97,000 miles on it the interior noise was bearable. Now with 124,500 miles on it, it seems much louder inside my cab. Going up through the gears my loose change will vibrate and the air inside the cab seems to also to a point where its hard to hear each other talk.

Mines the same way. Stuff rattle loose and it doesn't help when people open the doors with the wind and don't keep a hold of the door.

I've had my '06 since new and I've noticed the same thing. I know I read an artical once that talked about how diesel's will continue to get noisier as miles add on. Certainly things like tire tread design and amount of wear play into road noise too. But door seals shrink, body insulation gets detached from factory contact points as it cycles through seasons of wet & dry, dirt and mud... body paint gets more abrasions and this makes more wind noise. It all adds on.

Same way. Mines a 2003. Seems as though the more miles on me the noisier I'm getting.

One thing I would recommend on the early 3rd Gen's is to upgrade the door/cab weatherstripping.
Chrysler has redesigned it several times, improving it each time, making it thicker, adding layers, and eliminating the part that rubs on door as you open it.

I upgraded it several years ago and it made a huge difference in wind noise.
If your doors rub on the front part ahead of the door mirrors, you still have the old style.
Super easy install, it was about CAD$120 for both sides about 4 years ago.

Here's a really old picture how to identify the new style door weather stripping. The design might have changed since then.

Well this is probably better than it getting really quiet all of a sudden.

Things get rattly with age, like a lot of the members around DTR

My theory about the increased noise is the condition of the interior pieces. The plastic trim has probably lost some flexibility from the heat/cooling cycles of the weather. With as many pieces that have to fit together like a puzzle, those connections are looser from constant vibrations and tiny repetitive movements at the joints. Also the insulation under the carpets lose insulating properties as it gets older and matted down each time it is stepped on. Just like insulation in your house works best when it is fluffed and not squished together, the insulation mats under the carpet does the same.

Right now my passenger door panel has a broken mount up by the side view mirror. That thing rattles and will rattle until I get the entire panel replaced. This might be the beginning of increased noise on my truck

Truck's not getting louder, you're jsut getting older! j/k

Mine's the same, but mostly self inflicted.
First came mud tires, then the silencer ring came out, then the muffler fell off, then the hood insulation started sagging so removed it. Not really certain if the truck has gotten any louder on it's own or not.
