Mileage issue?

I have a 2006 3500, drw, quad cab, auto, 94k miles. I bought it used with 40k miles. I have never gotten very good mileage and am wondering if anybody has any suggestions. Empty commuting (60mph two lane roads) I average 15.5 mpg hand calculated (overhead says 22mpg). Towing an enclosed trailer 24feet long, total weight 9k lbs I average 9.5mpg hand calculated (overhead says 14.4). I bought this truck since it was the last year of the 5.9 and it should get good mileage. The truck is stock except an aftermarket exhaust from the turbo back (on it when I bought it). Would I benefit from a tune to try and get better mpg? Could there already be a tune in it (since I am not original owner) that is hurting my mileage? If i cant get much better mileage I may just trade it in on a new one since I dont think they get much worse.

Have you changed your fuel filter, air filter, done a trany service? What size and type of tires are you running? What air pressure? What type of drive is it... Hilly, flat, combo??

Lots of variables when it comes to mileage. All things considered you can always get a Smarty Jr. which will help with performance and mileage.

Just had a significant drop in my mileage and the shop recommended running a bottle of injector cleaner in a tank of fuel and they sprayed something on the injectors (not sure what since I wasnt' the one who took it in). However good news is that I went from 13mpg back up to 19mpg. Might be worth a try in your situation!

Sounds good for a DRW. I get about that with my SRW. Most mileage claims you hear about are so inflated it's ludicrous. The only time I have recorded excellent mileage was driving 55 mph and cruising long distances.

Also, '07 was last year for the 5.9.

Mt Dodge, what and how did the shop exactly spray something on the injectors??? That would require disassembly of the valve cover, injector feed lines and pulling rockers.
