Cost of an injector
Cost of an injector
Had issue with truck idling rough and smoking at startup. Put in a new air cleaner, fuel filter and dealer suggested a can of additive which was done last week. Ran a tank of fuel through it, some improvement but still not right. Dropped it off at dealer this morning and just got the call that the #6 injector is bad. Part is $750, labor $250 and tax $120. $1120 for one injector. Is this standard or a ripoff? 2007 5.9L with 105,000.
Anything at the *********** is a RIP OFF. Thats insane. If your made of money go for it.
If your at all mechanically inclined it's not hard to do.
I bought mine at http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com, have had no issues what so ever. I can't remember if I bought Bosch or the no name ones. I seem to recall going with the Bosch ones. I did half at time due to financial reasons, the second time took me 2.5 hours on the street to do the front 3.
There is tons of info on here regarding changing them, tricky part from what I recall is alignment with the fuel tubes through the head. #6 is Tricky given it's location.

They sell reman injectors, I put one in last week and lasted one week before it went out again. Engine was missing and smoke again. Replaced it again under warranty. Try a Cummins dealer same injector half the price Save your receipt in case you get a bad one also.
Mine went down on the road, around Clarksville, TN.,
Limped into the local dealer.
They said it was an injector or gasket (with the wiring in it)...... yours is cheap compared to what I had to pay in order to get back on the road ASAP.
At least they had the arts in stock.

Anyone know what exactly makes our injectors cost 5-10x as much as a 2nd gen? I know they're a bit more complex due to the HCPR and whatnot, but jeez.
That's big bucks at the dealer! Do they really charge around 6 grand for a set? I started using Diesel Kleen with my fillup today hoping to get the maximum life out of mine -so far so good...
