Megacab SRW to DRW

While I'd love to find someone to do a conversion/swap with, realistically I doubt I will find someone willing to do it.

As an option, does anyone have a list the parts and part numbers that I'll need to purchase for the conversion?

Here is what I "think" I need:

Megacab fender flares, pr
Front Hubs, pr
Rear axle shafts with dually spacers, pr
Lug nuts for all wheels
Dually wheels/tires

If I understand right:
The front dually hubs bolt on to my existing hubs.
The only difference in the rear end is that the dually axles have spacers and will otherwise replace mine.
The Megacab dually fender flares are expensive but can be attached to my existing bed with slight bed modification.
I am lacking the 3500 overloads but I already installed Timbrens so I am good there.

What am I missing except the cash?

Why not just save a lot of headache and buy/trade for a DRW?

It would prob cost you near as much to source all that and install it and then get it painted as it would to have the long bed put on

You can find guys willing to swap, might take a bit but ive seen several guys that have gone from DRW to SRW, there was a guy on cumminsforum that did it recently, and he just traded a guy with a SRW back and forth for the parts.

Just post up some ads on the different diesel forums and you might find someone wanting to swap.

Has anyone ever really determined if the hubs and axle shafts would interchange?

It seems that many have talked about it but no one "really" knows the answer...

If they are both 11.5" is there really a completely different housing for the DRW?

Someone mentioned that everything was the same except the Axle shaft is longer, hubs are different and there is a spacer on the DRW.

I read somewhere else that the outer bearings are different.

Somewhere else I read that the axle housing tubes are thicker on the DRW.

I have no facts to support it but I would doubt, due to the money involved, that there are two different 11.5" housings for these axles. Does anyone have access to all related part numbers?

I have a guy with the DRW axle that will swap but he has 4.10 gears and I have 3.73. It would be easier to just swap the axle shafts and hubs if it is possible. Mine is a 2006 and his is a 2005 so they should be the same.

Does anyone really have the facts?

I am starting this in a few weeks!

The flares are one of the items I need to source.

I would really appreciate the lead.

AEmedic.

You might want to pm Chris Brahs (cbrahs), he and another fellow did the SRW -> DRW changeover on a truck, Chris says it was a 'piece of cake'. I think that a flatbed was put on, but the rest is exactally what you need to know, need to do.

I go back in forth on doing the swap to SRW. Some days I don't want the dully and then I tow and remember why I bought it. I'm kinda glad your not closer it would make the decision even harder.

I hear ya, I just know that the Toy Hauler I plan to upgrade to will require me to have the DRW for stability.

I've considered doing the SRW -> DRW as well. It COULD easily be something I do in the not too distant future. I actually have 2 trucks around my place, my 'other' truck is an 88 Ford F350 460 gasser. I bought it new back then, use it for a lot around the place when it is just easier to use it. I don't want to get rid of my 2006, may buy another 2006 dually?? or just convert the one I have to DRW. I guess I am like everyone else, can't make up my mind, but very tempting to go ahead and do it. I tow, heavy tow as well, have not had any problems but it would sometimes be nice to just go dually and get it over with. If I ran across a pair of Mega fenders, it would all just be history and I'd be buying wheels, spacers, etc and gettin' it done.
