MBRP cat test pipe install?

Just to make sure that I'll do this right.....after the exhaust clamps on the front and back side of the cat are loosened and removed, heat has to be applied to where the clamps were at?

How hot? Does the pipe have to turn red all the way around? After the pipe is heated, how long will it take to get the cat and the pipe removed? Will the cat delete install pipe go on easier than the removal? TIA.

Mine came off without any heat. It wasn't near as tight as the muffler. Install was simple. I used accu seal clamps instead of the U clamps. Make sure the pipe is seated really well BEFORE you clamp it down.

dzilla,

How crimped were the pipes from the U bolts? I loosened the bolts today to inspect the crimps. They were crimped from being tight, but they weren't what I would consider to be excessively crimped.

Mine were crimped a little. It still took some wrestling, but it came off. I also did this with the truck on the ground. I just wrapped my arms around the cat like I was hugging it and planted my feet to something under the truck (front tire for me) and lifted with my legs. Popped right off. I did have to twist it back and forth a little.

I'm with Zilla.... they were clamped and deformed too tight to even think of working them loose. A sawzall does wonders

Makes it sound a little louder.

I had a hard time with mine. I had to use a cutoff wheel and split the converter pipe (Top & Bottom). Wrestled with this thing for a half hour and finally pulled it off. It's a lot easier to get the delete pipe back in. I actually welded all my seems up, because of a few leaks.

But, it was all worth it! Makes a huge difference in the sound.

mine came off without any heat. i used alot of loosen it, its just like wd40. i sprayed the heck out of it and wiggled the pipes apart. but when i put the test pipe on i couldnt get it to seal good so i had a muffler shop weld it.
