Question maybe a first time dodge owner

I am a longtime Ford PSD owner looking to buy my first Dodge diesel. I went to the local Dodge dealer today to order a 2006 3500 Cummings with 6sp tranny. The order taker said that in the 2006 they were changing from the NV5600 to an aluminum Getrag.

Needless to say I didn't place the order.

Has anyone else heard this?
What's track record on the Getrag behind the Cummings?

I'm moving from Ford because of the 6.0 PSD but don't want a good Cummings with a toy tranny.

thanks in advance

I'm not expert, but I have read guys having serious problems with the G56.

Can you find an 05 in stock somewhere with the NV5600?

Welcome. First off, its a Cummins. No "g". Second, find a dealer who knows what he is talking about. The G56 is not a Getrag. Its a Mercedes tranny. While they were on hold I read somewhere that the fix was and additional qt. of tranny fluid. Again, welcome.

Get out and test drive one I say your going to like the new dodge.
My buddy bought a 05 PSD I myself are not empressed for a $46k truck
looks like a two drive truck to me. Dodge sits up higher then any stock truck.
test drive the 325/610 and the PSD 325/570 see for yourself.

I placed my order in January and I finally picked up my new truck last night! The one thing I noticed is that the tranny shifts very smooth. First gear is VERY low. Read in the owners manual that first gear (it has an "L" on the shifter) is for when you are pulling a load. I have read on here that you should never start off in 2nd, but 1st is so low I doubt I wont use it except to get moving while pulling a trailer. My dealer said that the fix (add 1 qt of fluid) is already out on a TSB for the G56. 35 miles on her so far with no problems! I am so happy I finally got my baby!!!! Go with the Dodge, you can't go wrong!

I can't believe they get away with telling you that all the problems with the G56 launch was related to the trans being one quart low.
