Major grinding noise in OD

I have a bone stock 03 2500, HO,48RE, 4wd- 55k miles. Over the last week, noticed a grinding sound while in OD. Take it out of OD and the sound stops.
I though for sure it was the mighty 48RE OD dumping, till my final test drive tonight - at 25 MPH in OD-hit a bump and the grinding started-big time.
Any thoughts, U-Joints? - anyone else had this problem.

First time post - Long time "observer"-love the forum and you guys have saved me major bucks by teaching me how to maintaining my truck myself.

Any input would be appreciated.

do the tranny mount test?

look under it, have someone put it in gear, put a little strain on it, see if the tranny or t-case may be loose?

you can then jack up the tranny or T-case to see if they are loose.
