Maintenance Questions

Just got my RAM, some maintenance questions:

Air Filter does not need changing unless filter minder tells you that it is plugged up?

Does fuel filter need to be drained every time you fill up?

How many grease fittings on the truck? Where are they?

When does front/rear axle lubricant need to be changed if I don't tow alot?

If I met all requirements of Schedule A, can I go 15K miles between oil changes?

Thanks!

Yes, go by the filter minder.

No, especially if you buy fuel from the same, reliable place every time.

Two, look at the ball joints just inside of both front wheels.

Every 15,000 miles, must be GL-5 synthetic.

Read the requirements of schedule A. If your start your truck and drive it, you fall under schedule B.

I don't even know why they waste their time listing a Schedule A
They only way to run by that schedule is to not buy a truck

Yes, go by the filter minder. OR, change to an oil-foamed filter and clean every 25k miles.

YES, even if you buy fuel from the same, reliable place every time. You never know if they get a load of fuel with water in it. Also, look at using a Diesel Fuel Additive such as Red Line, Rotella DFA, or Diesel Kleen to help keep the Lift Pump lubricated and injectors clean.

Two, look at the ball joints just inside of both front wheels. Grease every oil change.

Schedule B says every 15,000 miles, must be GL-5 synthetic. Or, change to a good quality synthetic like Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple and don't worry about them again (lifetime fill), unless you're doing alot of heavy towing, then stay with Schedule B.

Read the requirements of schedule A. If your start your truck and drive it, you fall under schedule B. Agree....change oil/filter every 7500 miles, fuel filter every 10k miles (even though book says 15k). I also spray silicone on all the door & window weatherstrips/moldings once a month. You'll notice a lot of people complaining about the frt doors rubbing and tearing the weatherstrips and that's why Dodge had a TSB out to replace them.

FWIW. the filter minder isn't worth the plastic it's made of. I've never seen one function properly. I learned the hard way while pulling the RV in the mtns. Change the air filter every 15K miles and be done with it. These beasts love huge amounts of clean air.

I agree and I don't even change mine. I just wash it ond reoil it. I took out the DC filter in February and it was 4 shades of black and had all kinds of stuff in it. I don't see how it was allowing air thru. When I put in the AMSOIL air filter the Turbo would spoil up faster and give me a NICE turbo whine

I use the Airaid cold air charger. It works great. As for the fuel filter I change it every time I change the oil (next time you change the fuel filter ask the dealership to give the old one back, once you see it you'll probably change it every oil change too). As far as greasing, I live in Quebec, Canada and the roads here are pretty rough. I generally crawl underneath the truck every 2000 miles and push some grease in, sometimes its a lot and sometimes its nothing, but, grease is cheap insurance to do it often. Prsonally I use Red Line grease.

I put the Amsoil 2000 series in both frt and rear end too. The book says every 15k in Schedule B, but Amsoil will say it's a "Lifetime" fill. So, the question is what you're comfortable with? I'd rather change every 15k and stay within Dodge recommendations and warranty for now....
