Talking Is It Magic Or Something Else

Well, there for a good while i have not liked the way the truck ran and sounded kinda loud and a bit rough. I 'm not sure what happened next but with about 43.5k on the ticker it all settled down and got quiet. I mean quiet like i can listen to the radio on volume 8. It seems a lot smoother too maybe the goat fairy finally smiled down on me. Hope it stays like that i might just keep it

Bad news, my friend!

After not lubing your muffler bearing for so long (that's what all the noise was), it must've seized up and fell out.

A hood stack should take care of the noise issue...

i must disagree- if you'll notice, he said there is 43.5 k on the odometer, which is exactly the mileage where you will get glow plug relief valve failure.

You are in luck today my friend, saw this on the classifieds. Should help you out at the 43.5 mark. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=10514&cat=all

You're all wrong. That's when the piston return springs usually get broken in.

Now don't you all jump too quick. You're forgetting the capstandhousing. It may have finally smoothed out.

The problem with the internet is a lot of misinformed people. The engine ECM is programmed to adjust certain parameters to ensure correct engine break-in. At 43.5k you are at "Phase 3" if a 5 phase program. IIRC phase 3 advances the timing a little more and realigns the hydraulic fuel pump coupler to put the CP3 in full sync. Since the CP3 is a piston pump the rotational vibration was causing the noise which you heard as a "tick" and since it is at full alignment the tick is gone. Just wait until phase 5 when the turbocharger friction drive releases and you can run full boost!

That is only in the 6.7l engines.

Once again, lies and propaganda spread through here like wildfire.

Next you are going to tell me you get 800mi. to a 35 gal. tank of fuel. Or better yet you pulled a stranded rig up Mt. Everest in 2wd with "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" blaring without breaking traction?

Please sir, reserve your comments for factual statements and not rumors.

Shame on you all. The guy asks a question looking for your sage advice and you give him a hard time.

RSOPNC01: The noises were in your head all along. You have apparently been cured by liberal doses of DTR and should start sending in weekly donations to keep them from coming back. (Actually, my truck seemed to make less noise after about 20k miles but I think it was from switching from Hams to Coors light)

I got 800 miles out of a 35 gallon tank (that holds 40 gallons) driving back from the East Coast last year - must've been the 37"s...
