OK, I know that this is going to sound funny, but would there be any functional problem with just removing the blocks on the back axle to get rid of some of the slope of the truck instead of raising the front? I have bags, so I can maintain the set with a load on. Only reason that I ask this question is that I have read WAY too much about people getting the Death Wobble after raising the front.

Dang, i was wonder the same thing to. But I want mine a little lower to help when I load my motorcycle in and out. These stock 4x4 trucks are tall.

 

The height is a problem when pulling goosenecks all the time, especially in my pasture! I love my tall truck, except when I can't make a terrace.

 

Thats been dicussed in the past.Photos and how to etc.Basicly blocks are taken from under to above.For ease of doing the job some new bolts are needed etc.Try a search function.Been thinking a LONG time about dropping mine.

 

Thanks Hounddog, I did find a lot of info on a search. It looks like just swapping the blocks from the bottom to the top will do what I want and not require me to change the U-bolts. Then I can also switch it back again later if I wanted. Thanks.

 

Something about new eye bolts that line springs up? also about the grade of bolt.Whatever bolt that is hard to keep from turning and gets buggered up.

 

I did this on my old '04.5 and will be doing it on my new '06. Easy to do, squirt WD 40 or some such thing on the bolts a few days before you take it apart. You do not need to buy any new hardway unless you screw something up taking it apart.

The ubolts can be reused. The one thing you may want to replace will be the center bolt for the spring pack as you need to remove it and turn it 180 degree's. When I did mine, the pass. side had the threads bungled up and made for a hard removel without waisting the nut's. When I do this to my '06 I will replace the center bolts.

If you have not done this before, you will need a couple of BIG C-clamps to do it other wise you just might not get it back together again.

 

THE CENTERBOLTs is what I was trying to say!!! They need to be of a certain grade also.

 

They only come in one grade, probably grade 8. It is a special bolt, got's a round head on it. Get yourself an 8" pipe wrench to hold it, doesn't bugger up the head so badly.

Well this turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. I ended up pulling the spring packs out, and switched the spacers from the bottom to the top. It ended up dropping the back about 1.5". Truck looks more proportional now. I don't feel like I am driving around with my *** up in the air. Thanks for the info.

 

The only problem I see with lowering these trucks is when you do load them down with large trailers, then they will look and pull level. I guess if you don't ever load them down, lowering them would be cool.

 

That is when the airbags kick in. I don't think I would do it without bags. Then you would be nose high with a load.
