Low fuel light.

My low fuel light came on the other day so I filled up. Only took 25 gallons. I thought the fuel tank was in the 30 gallon range.

Anyone know whats going on?

It's DC's way of making sure you don't run out of fuel. Mine take 25 gallons when the light comes on.

OK, look in the glove box and grab the "OWNERS MANUAL" Read it and you will find out loads of stuff about your truck

And when the fuel light comes on you have 5-7 gallons left. I have been told that part of the reason is that running a diesel all the way out of fuel is much worse than a gasser and that the reserve is in case you are towing. Not sure of the accuracy of either reason.

I have a long bed, so supposedly 35 gal. capacity. Although I've put more than that in on several occassions. No tank ventectomy or anything just some patience. Worst case was a little over 37 gallons for a fill-up and the low fuel light had been on for 75 miles the overhead read 0 miles to empty for most of that. Kinda' stupid - yes, really lucky - you bet, but I didn't run outa' fuel.
Yes, DC has built a significant margin of error into the low fuel light and unless you're out west or in very unfamiliar territory there's plenty of time/miles to find fuel I think.

I would guess, since we can fill our tanks until the needle rests on the peg, we can also run it til it darn near touches the E peg?? i was at 2 DTE, so I dumped in the 5 that I keep @ the house. (Burnin off the remainder of winter blend, wanna fresh tank to try Howes diesel treat) .At that point, it still isnt touching the peg on E.

The last two times I filled up my fuel tank it would not fill the last two gallons(or that's what it seems like anyway). I ran it far enough that the low fuel light cam on both times and the truck took on 2+- gallons less than usual. Usually at the low fuel light it would take just short of 28 gallons, now at the beginning of that light it would only put in 25 some odd gallons. The light is coming on at the usual spot on the gauge, but the needle will not rest on the peg when fully fueled. I have been pumping to one cut off after the automatic cut off.

I have been told 5-7 gallons left when the light comes on. I typically drive another 50-75 miles beofre I fill up once the light comes on. I always try and get 600 miles out of EVERY tank of fuel and sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't get it. The most I have put in before is @ 33 gallons, and that was being VERY patient at the pump. I nomally avg @ 18-19 MPG and put in @ 30-32 gallons with about 50/50 driving highway city, and on the highway is 65-70 MPH. So that comes out to 540-620 miles on a tank. Someone on this board said one time they added 40 gallons to their truck before.
