louder rattle at 1200rpm
looking for some diagnosis and possible solution for my '04 235SO engine. at 1200 the rattle becomes noticeably louder, then goes back to "normal" after. it is very subtle when the engine is cold and becomes very evident once warmed up. the rattle sounds "sloppy", not the tight rattle of the enginge in other areas of the powerband. also this will not happen if the truck is in neutral or park. the tranny must be engaged (48RE). any insight?....anybody else experience this sound?...normal for the ctd?........thanks in advance
That noise drives me up the stupid wall. I figured it was normal but it just sounds like a cheap diesel sound. Sounds like a gasser engine that is way out of timing when it happens and then goes away as the rpms start going up.
Loud enough that when driving through town, people will stop and look as I take off. It does sound alittle quieter since removing the intake tube and making my own Chromed tube. Now at least I hear the turbo sing some. But it still drives me up a wall.

thanks for the input, i've been going thru some threads about bad injectors and the descriptions sound scarily close to what i've been hearing. i'm planning on switching out to edm flux injectors soon, so i want to make sure they are in good working order.......
Injector knock
I have an '03, HO that does pretty much what you are talking about. Mine's the 6-sp., and when I start out in 1st, the knock occurs from 800 to about 1200 rpm's.
It sounds like one injector is not doing the "pilot injection" thing. Instead of multiple shots of fuel on each compression stroke, it sounds like one large shot of fuel is being distributed.
I've taken it to the dealer but, it wouldn't do it there and they "can't fix what doesn't appear to be broke". However, I found out that the dealers have a recording device that plugs into the truck, then whenever the problem occurs, you turn on the device and record the problem for later review.
I'm going to try to take it in next week to get it fixed.

I just brought mine to a dealership on Friday for a slite knock when using slight throttle. I can only hear it when its cold in the morning. But what I did notice is when I put in reverse with the parking brake on I can hear a slight knock which I suspect is a bad injector. When I feel the fuel line on cylinder one I can deffinently feel a vibration with a pulse where my other fuel line to the other cylinders are smooth. It will getting looked at next Friday.I'll keep you posted.
