One of my buddys bought a 04.5. He is hearing a noise that sounds like normal tire noise to me but we put my old stock tires on with no effect on the noise. He even changed out both unit bearings because he thought maybe that could be it. Does anyone have any ideas what this noise could be? The noise increases with speed.

my guess would be rear end pinion or carrier bearing noise

 

Rear end bearings...

Jack the rear end up, spin the tires and listen. Pull the inspection plate and look at the fluid.

is the noise the same on coast and acceleration? if so probably pinion bearings
