Lost two injectors and my cost
My truck started making oil and it did a nice job of covering the bottom and back with it before I woke up and seen it .
My first problem came when getting a tow from Dodge to the 5 star dealer that I went out of my way to purchase it from , I was informed any mileage over the distance to the closest dealer comes out of my pocket . There solution was to tow it to a dealer that sold one diesel last year that they got on a dealer swap . I had already experience a 4 month problem with idiots on a simple universal joint change , cracked cap , vibration , tore up carrier bearing and 8 trips back , not again . They did call that dealer who told them that they had a qualified diesel mechanic , ya right . So it looks like I am out a tow , but I figure that is better then getting my truck back with sparkplug's installed . The dealer I had it towed to informs me that the 80 dollar oil change comes out of my pocket not Dodges which makes no sense to me at all plus 100 dollar deductible and cleaning it back up would be a favor to me if done but not there problem . My truck will be down for a week plus and the days of a loner are long gone . When it does get done I will need to find a 35 mile ride to pick it up . So , it looks like over a 200 dollar bill , for warranty work which I would gladly pay if they would just do the job right the first time , but in my heart I know it won't happen . The oil change on the truck had 600 miles on it and I think he is wrong on the deductible , am I right ? Does anyone have any idea why the American auto industry is in trouble ? I have been takeing it in since new to complain about the injector clatter and have been adding Power Service to the fuel . If anyone wants to know , there is no box , I have been waiting for warranty to finish and maybe order a Smarty . The way it looks the warranty was up when I drove it off the lot they just didn't tell me .

Sorry to hear about your mess, hope your luck gets better. My #2 piston bearing went on mine and I elected to pay the extra and tow it to a dealer I trusted. I towed it from Madison WI to Janesville WI. It was going to cost me an extra $60 at the time, but I had been getting it serviced there regularly. They thanked me for selecting them and ate the $60 charge and even got me a QC (gasser) to use during the repair. It pays to ask questions and think things thru. I often forget to do that myself
.
.
When I had injector problems the dealer paid for the oil change and had the whole bottom side steam cleaned and washed and detailed the truck inside and out. They told since the oil contamination was caused by the injector problem it was all under warranty. When the changed the turbo out the also changed the oil and filter. I lucked out, both times it was due for an oil change, 5,000 miles.
The impression that I get is that warranty, quality of service, and customer care is mostly a dealer issue - yes, technically Dodge does issue the warranty but it may not be worth the paper that it's printed on at one dealership and may be worth a bundle at another. Those who have access to a good dealership need to count their blessings.
Sorry to hear of your problems.

As long as your truck is less than 60 months old (and under 100,000 miles) the injectors are covered by the Cummins engine warranty, with $0.0 deductible. The deductible only applies after 60 months. Any coincidental damage (oil change) would be covered also. The towing is only covered to the nearest Dealer so you are responsible for that.

Were would I find the information on the oil change being covered . They called me today and said it was not covered and it would be out of my pocket . After some discussion we did agree that I have no deductible so I guess that's a good thing . It sure does not make sense to me that they will not cover it .
The service around me in Ohio comes to the need to pick between the lesser of two evils when it comes to a dealer , glad some of you are doing better then I can .

In your warranty manual on pages 14-16 it talks about consequential (I put coincidental in first post sorry) damage and excludes it. In bold print it says some states don't allow it to be excluded. In Texas alot of what is listed isn't covered but any consequential damage on the vehicle is covered.

I called the general manager and told him that it says consequential damage is suppose to be covered and he agreed to cover it . Thank you for the help , my warranty book is in my truck but I knew what they told me could not be right . I got free towing on my insurance and that should take care of the last bill but what a pain in the back side this all has been . Thanks again ! All they got to do now is a good job .
And they would have let you pay for it had you not say anything. Despicable to say the least. It's one thing if a service writer makes a mistake on occasion but it seems to be more of a rule rather than the exception anymore.

Before someone starts hollering "get a rope" remember something. The dealer made a mistake, the dealer corrected the mistake so at this time, $0.00 dollars due. The tow bill is outside of the warranty and clearly defined as such. It's just about impossible to have a set of guidelines that covers every possible situation or combination of events so dealers will interpret the warranty differently depending on their experience. Once again, know the rules when you have to play the game. If you don't, stay calm, ask questions at the dealer and here. Then you can compare notes and approach the problem with the information needed to have an informed, intelligent discussion. John Halter, please keep us up to speed on this as it's probably one of the most problematic areas on the 3rd gens.
John,
If you continue to have problems feel free to PM me. We have a dealer up here near Cleveland that is fantastic. They let me "borrow" the DRBIII for my truck or the StarScan for newer trucks, loan me specialty tools when I need them, and give me cost + 5% on parts (that's the kicker because they are the regional wholesaler, I buy parts cheaper than other dealers can).
I am good friends with their diesel tech and he is top notch to say the least. When my truck was still under warranty long ago he was the only one they let touch it and I never had to take it back for the same problem twice other than the infamous brake pull, but that had nothing to do with him.

I am hoping the dealer that I had it towed to in Wooster would do the job right because they have always before this . They got bought out recently and when they started with 100 deductible and I pay for the oil change , plus we will see what we can do about clean up it left a bad taste in my mouth . I was already in a bad mood from making 10 calls to get it towed and waiting 5 hours . Each call takes about 10 minutes before you can talk to a human and you just want to kill someone by the time it goes through . The third guy they sent out finally had a truck that could take it , the first guy said he would if I signed off for any damage he did . The third guy had a roll back which is the best way to go any how and he came all the way from Cleveland . Were I live between Ashland and Mansfield the service has been awful and I guess after talking to the service manager I started wondering if I towed it to the wrong place after all . I would rather have them hand me the parts and let me install them .
They said that they checked for water and did not find any and all they can say is the injector is hanging open and it could be a electronic problem . One had failed completely and another was border line so they were replacing it also . I hope this will be the end of it when it is fixed , I do really like this truck . With warranty information changing so much I am just hoping the guy got confused and nothing more .
If this had happened along the road far from home with all the trouble I had getting towed things could have been a lot worse .
I will let you all know how it all comes out good our bad .

First I want to thank everyone for there help on this one , all comments were highly appreciated .
I picked my truck back up yesterday and the dealer did a respectable job on it . This is the first time I have taken this truck in to a dealer and have had it returned with the problem fixed . It was deficiently worth going a few more miles to get my truck fixed After a little debate with the general manager the oil change and cleaning were both covered under warranty and I must say the dealer in Wooster Ohio did a decent job of it . The truck run's a lot better and mileage is way up .
I figured I would give the rest of you some of the signs I missed so you do not go as far as I did before catching and injector problem . The dealer could give me no reason for the failure and I cannot either all I can say is the fuel additive did not prevent it . My truck started acting up about the same time the low sulfur fuel arrived and I blamed most of the problem on it rather then thinking something else was wrong and the failure maybe related , I do not know . Power went down gradual and I must say so slow that I was not real sure but kept thinking something is wrong . Fuel mileage kept dropping and again I figured LSF so I missed that signal also . Being a mechanic my whole life I find it embarrassing to admit I drove it until oil and fuel were all over the truck but that is what I did . It is time for me to go back to basics and return to what I was told when I was knee high , that is when you put fuel in you always check the oil .
I do that on everything else why not my truck , a big mistake that I will correct .
Hope this helps someone else a little and thanks again .
