Lost power and got the CEL

I am thinking this could be a sensor related problem... I was pulling a light trailer and noticed and low speeds it was surging like it had a plugged fuel filter (ti ain't that) and then when I started pulling up through the gears it just lost all power like the engine shut down >>> But the engine was still running but it just dropped to an idle and the CEL chimed in. I pulled over and checked everything out and it all seems normal and I was able to drive away with all the gauges reading normal... The light went out the next day but I started noticing the surging a low speeds especially when I am on a rough road... I shifted to neutral and rev'ed the engine a little and it took off to 3200 RPM and stayed there for about 5 second and scared the <POOP> out of me!!

Could this be a Throttle Position sensor?? Or does it sound like something else??

2 codes >>

P2121 and P2122

I found P2121 on the web... It looks like a Petal Position Sensor... I haven't found 2122 yet...

Yes it is an APPS reset. From what I remember it is turn key on, depress fuel pedal 3 times, turn key off. Never start the truck. Do a search on APPS reset to double check me.

Probably won't do any good. Those codes have to do with what the ecm is seeing from the apps during the apps "stroke". The resetting procedure usually just relearns the min/max values for trans shifting concerns. They arent cheap, but it sounds like a new apps is in your future!

From what I have read that is true. An APPS is in his future, but several have gotten a few more miles out of them after a reset. And several have not. It's worth a try.

Oh....agreed definatley! The free tricks are always worth a shot! I was just saying that most of the guys that do the reset weren't getting codes, as I remember.

Ok... Did the reset.

I will test drive it tomorrow... Quoted $509 by my dealer >> Sounds really high...

Where is the APPS located?? Can it be cleaned??

I will spend the money if I need to but I would rather spend it on fuel (not that It will get me very far )

Yours could be under the hood, under the battery box or in the cab I think. They had several places they mounted them in 04.5 and ups. Look directly above the CP3 ( under a black cover ) If its not there, follow the throttle cable from the pedal to the apps.

Well.... It just about stranded me today.... So I called the Dealership Parts guy and hounded him for about 20 minutes... I got him to come off the $509 price he first quoted me and got him down to $422.....

It was a simple swap >>> The APPS was located right on the side of the motor beside the intake horn... 6 10mm bolts, unplug the electrical connector and pop off the throttle linkages and you swap them out and BAM! your done...
I took a short test drive and it seems to be better >> I will book up tomorrow and give it a "Proper" test drive...
Maybe I will fast and pray tonight that it works tomorrow... If not I may just go buy a new truck... I can just call the episode with the parts guy a practice for the truck salesdude. Of course that was only 17% - 18% >>> I think I can do much better than that!! LOL
