lost 4x4

i go to get in the truck today and notice my service 4x4 system light is on. it has the electronic switch. the yellow light on the indicator will go from 4wd low to 4wd hi. it will not engage at all. any ideas why. i havnet looked real hard at it but i did check all the fuses that are involved with the system and there all good. not clanking or grinding it just like it stopped working.

I'm not certain if the DCX system works the say way as the FoMoCo one or not, but there is probably an actuator motor that has taken a dump on you. Had this happen to me in an Exploder a few years back. Easy to swap out, but a little pricey (although you may still be under warranty??). HTH

man i hope thats not it. the truck only has 52000 miles but its heavily modded so warrenty isnt a option. is the electric 4x4 operated on a vaccum?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure on the Dodge vehicles I kind of doubt it though, as the only vacuum stuff I'm aware of was back when they were using vacuum to engage the front axle disconnect (sort of like a set of hubs, but a miserable design at best). The transfer case itself *should* engage/disengage with an electric motor, which is obviously controlled via your dash switch. If you crawl under there you can probably easily find that motor, unplug the harness, and using a test light see if your switch is working properly. If so, I would assume your motor went belly up on you...

As to the warranty, I don't think there is any mod out there that could void the warranty on that shift motor?? Repeated mudding/dunking in water might, but if you're not into that sort of thing I would say you've got a warranty claim on your hands

how about 25psi launches in 4x4 . cant see how that would brake the 4x4 motor though u joints drive shafts maybe. i give the warrenty a try. all they can say is no. i just dont expect them to fix something that i broke from a bombed truck.

4x4 is fixed. i crawled under the truck one last time to see if i missed anything and i saw some bare wires. for some reason the wires going to the transfer case were hanging to low and were getting hit by the front driveshaft u joint. all but 2 of the wires in thge loom were broke in half. i put connecters back on them and wored tied the loose wires so it wouldnt happen again and 4x4 works flawlessly. i would check those wires out just in case. and this may only apply to the trucks with the electronic 4x4 switch
