Looking for a posi/limited slip

When i bought my 05 2500 i was surprised to fine that it did not have a posi/limited slip of some sort. Does anyone know of any good bolt in units that will fit my truck and that is the most reliable and best bang for the buck.
Any help would be great.

thanks

AAM is the only one that makes one right now. Several companies "say" to be working on one, but I haven't seen any release dates. The AAM design is one that works quite well, and really isn't all that expensive to buy the parts from the dealer. IIRC it was around 600 bucks for the parts. Installation should be somewhere around 6 hours or so. Price will depend on experience and shop rates too. Dealer may be a good choice as they have all the special tools required to set up the new carrier. You should be able to re-use the ring and pinion.

I just priced this out through my dealer recently. They quoted me about $500 for the LSD and a total of $947 with it installed by them. I didn't think that was too bad a price actually. Wish the numbnut that ordered my truck would have included it though. Why do they even make it without it... $230 on the original sticker was all it was.

If you can do that, you can put it in. You already know the biggest thing is the gear pattern. Biggest concern I have is getting it back to as close as possible compared to where it was to begin with. I went to the AAM training when I worked for a dealer. As I recall, AAM will only accept pinions that are within specs. No shims or + & - on the pinion. Same with the ring gear. Set up should be easier that way.

yeah i just got a hold of a dealership and they said that if it had a unit in it, it would be a track rite, and then he told me that there was a service bulletin about how the housing has to be machined for oil flow or something. So it looks like something that i would not be able to do after all i guess

You must be talking about the rear end. Ive been looking for a limited or locker for the front end. Is there one available for the front yet?

For an 11.5 AAM , the carrier # is 5086962AA. List price is $659. The entire axle housing seems to only have 2 options with single rear wheels and it looks to be either 2 or 4 wheel drive. While I can't be 100% sure, that's what I'm guessing. Didn't see anyhitng about drilling for lubrication on any horse hockey about that! Maybe somebody with a little more experience in the parts area will help out. I just cant tell the difference in the line description. There are 2 possibilities, like I said earlier, either 7,8 or 2,3 . If I remember correctly that is 2 or 4 wd.

Same thing. AAM = American Axle Manufacturing

Might call your local parts department and ask about the housings. There are only 2 part numbers for single rear wheels and I'm guessing they are for 2 and 4 wheel drive. If that is the case, you should be able to just buy the carrier and slap the gear and bearings on it and be good to go! I don't know where they came up with drilling for lubrications and such! Ask them if they could get you a copy of the bulletin, or at least the number of the bulletin. I looked for 05-06 model years and also looked up the part #'s. If there was a bulletin, I should have come accross it.
