Hey, tritont, I've been following this sad story... sorry about your woes. Could have happened to any of us... I'l keep my eyes peeled for a engine for you, but I don't have much faith that I'll find one while I'm working.
Good luck, brother. Love the way your truck looks, you've put a lot of time and effort into it. I'll be glad to read the post that says you have it up and running again.
Best of luck...

I've heard a lot of guys talk about running 1600* for a few seconds. Is this really ok to do?
It has me worried now, since I've done the same thing........... once. Although I am not nearly as modded as tritont.
Do you think the high temp did it, or was it too much timing?

Alum does melt at much less than 1600*. That is an exhaust gas temp and not the temp of the metals surrounding it. The incoming air/fuel cools the pistons and bore. Problem is, when you're running alot of timing and a stock turbo with a ton of fuel, your drive pressure is sky high. So when the exhaust valve opens, all the hot exhaust doesn't escape because of the high drive pressure (turbo inlet pressure). This keeps ALOT of heat in the bore and the incoming charge can't keep up the cooling... And bingo... pistons and stuff go pop...

here you go guys.... the expected carnage............
nothing but parts now.....
not only a hole in it but, complete melted around the edge
A good piston for comparison......
#4 took the brunt of the heat. The valve seats I believe held as did the head gasket. There just a lot of heat scoring on the head and valves at #4.
