Lift pump pressure

I recently bought a used diesel ram and after hearing about lift pump failures I thought it would be a good idea to check the output.
The lift pump pressure at the banjo fitting going into the high pressure pump while the truck was running had 9 psi at idle and 7 psi under load.
The truck is all stock, is this typical of the factory in tank lift pump pressure?

thats not too bad, but its not great either. I am pretty sure it should be around 13psi at idle and not drop below 8 under load. Rather then change your lift pump, I would get a pusher pump like the one BD sells and put that in line with your stocker. That should give you around 20 psi and you shouldnt have to worry about starving your VP44

Thats what I had with my stock pump when nearly brand new. I put the Glacier pump, listed in my signature, on at around 5000 miles and run right at 20 psi. I also added the Glacier 2 micron fuel filter and big line kit as well. Its a great setup. If you're adventurous you could build it yourself for less than the Glacier system. There are instructions on this site where other members have built their own. If I were to do it over I probably would've built my own but I am 100% satisfied with my Glacier pump.

Yeap, that is typical pressure for an intank LP, which you have. The one of the back of the fuel canister is the one that gives folks fits. The intank units are normally very good. Except for mine. I of coarse got the junky one that died in 25,000 miles. So for me it was one at 23,000 miles or so because it was the on the filter one, and then at 50,000 miles my intank retro pump started acting stupid. You shouldn't have any issues.

Thats normal, I gor 8 psi with the stocker.
You'll be fine till you add a programmer or something, I was drawing my FP down to zero when I punched it running Cray Larry.

Stay away from the BD pump, it's just a rebranded Carter, they don't last.
When the time comes go with an Air Dog.

Had my lift pump replaced under warranty. 2003 3500 HO, 82,000mi. Shop tech said that a pressure test was not completely indicative of a bad LP. The book calls fow a flow test of a least 560 ml/10 sec. Mine was 420. They installed the in-tank LP
