My Headliner is leaking. I imagine that the water is coming in through a leaking clearance light. Do these lights normally leak around the perimeter where they meet the roof? What kind of sealant is best?

 

I think this is a common problem. Mine started leaking today and I just got this truck Saturday

 

Make them replace them. These lights are a terrible design and there have been many posts about this problem. Had all mine replaced once and now 2 of them are cracked again. They aren't leaking yet but I am sure they will.

im wondering if i buy the clearance lights and install them on my 2500, if they will leak or if its a factory problem

 

Pull your clearance lamps and reinstall them with some clear RTV in the screw holes. After you reinstall the screws put a dab of RTV on the top of the screws also. This works great and still allows you remove them to replace the bulbs later
This will save you the heartache of of water in the grab handles and the headliner coming down on you.

 

Knock on wood....but I've got 40K miles on my truck and have never had any problem with leaking clearance lights. Then again....I've never had ANY of the 3rd gen problems that I've read about on this site. I must have a good truck.

 

Another good reason not to have clearance lights!

So far no problems with the clearance lamps. But I'm keeping a sharp eye on them.

Don't look at them, LOOK at your A pillar handles and overhead for signs of water

 

I have an 04.5 with the leak. I have had it in the shop 3 different times for them to fix it and they still haven't yet. I go back next tuesday for them to fix it. I am starting to get ticked off. I know I can fix it myself but that is what the warranty is for. If they don't fix it this time I am going to be very ticked off.

 

Yep. Every time I was wash the truck I check the lens for cracks and the A-pillars for moisture.

I had the same problem with my new 2004.5 Dodge I bought last June. I went to pick it up after doing the finance thing and dealer prep (thorough wash job) and my headliner was leaking. They swap out a running light with another new truck and all was good. It took them about 30 minutes and I was on the road. The service manager clamed it was a broken running light seal that came from the factory.

 

Well, answers my ?. No clearance lights! Aint nothing like making a left hand turn and having your coffee cup refilled.

 

Not that's a good one, So how does it taste
