Knock in the steering wheel.

I have just noticed a knock in the steering in my truck. I can hear it in the cab of the truck, and feel it in the brake pedal. It seems to only do it in one spot. Anyone else know what might be causing this?

Just when I am turning the wheel from straight just past left to right in one spot. If it is straight, and turn it a little left, it will knock, and the same thing with turning it a little to the right.

Well one of the guys had the same symtoms as I am having. It is not a rattle when you are driving it, but a knock when you turn it just past straight. Driving straight down the raod there is nothing, but when parked and turn it slightly you get a slight knowck that you can hear and feel in the brake pedal.

I have traced it down to the steering shaft. I went under the truck and I think I have found the problem. The knuckle between the steering shaft (lower) and the steering box has some play in it. I don't think it is the steering box, just the knuckle. I will try and get the shaft off and see if there is any excess play in either.

R U sure it's not the steering wheel lock slightly bumping(that thing that makes the wheel lock after you take your key out)?

No, it is not the steering lock like you are thinking. I can feel the movement in the shaft itself. I can feel the most movement in the knuckle down by the steering box.

From 1994 to 2001(I left a D.C.dealer in 01) we replaced steering shafts for looseness and knocks. Not a lot of them but I bet one or two every few months. My 1998 1500 in sig.got a steering shaft for looseness and knock somewhere in the mid teens mileage wise when it was in warranty.

I had a knock in the steering wheel that turned out to be really bad ball joints. While turning the ball joints would move and make a knocking sound. The they took the lowers out he could pull them apart with his hands
