Keep a close eye on your Drain plug!

Man, I crawled under the truck yesterday to take some exaust measurements, and lo and behold, I see a little oil about to drip off the oil pan drain plug. Hadn't touched it since my last oil change 3k ago. Sure enough, it was finger loose. So I cranked it back down nice and snug, but man, I bout had a heart attack when I got to thinking if I hadn't looked under there, I woulda lost the plug and all my pressure by now. And the scary thing is I know I torqued the plug down good when I put it in. Are the vibes enough on a CTD that this is something I should keep an eye on in the future? Shouldn't matter, but the plug is Geno's magnetic tip plug w/ the fiber washer that came w/ it. -Steve

That's kinda weird alright. When I did my first change at about 4000mi. mine was only finger tight also! (My brother's was tough to take off on the first change.)

Don't torque it down too tight or it will crack and you will leak even more oil...

Could it be the aftermarket plug you're using? I've never had a problem with my plug loosening and I change my oil every 7500 miles.

I'm pretty sure Geno's had a problem with one of their plugs some time ago with backing out. I believe it was the magnetic variety, Superplug or something like that.

I have heard that if you over tighten the plug which is easy to do from what I understand it will leak from then on ... this fella suggested using a torque wrench to tighten the plug? I think I would look into the problem before something goes a stray like the oil pan ...... this note now was hear say from another Cummins owner maybe someone can confirm what I heard
