K01 second notice!!!
K01 second notice!!!
OK, so got my California " ECM reprogram" recall notice in the mail today. I got one last summer and did not have it done because of the stories on here. When I had my truck smogged it passed just fine and the computer communicated just fine. Whats the consensus??? Should I just have it done or let it go? It says DMV can hold my registration? THanks!

I replied to the other thread but I would let them keep sending you the notices. Keep all paper work from when you passed the smog check and make them prove you need to do it. I think you already proved them wrong.
It seems you do have choices;- Complete Recall (or have friendly dealer imput recall was complete)
- Register non-op
- Get rid of the truck
- Move to a less restrictive state
- None of the above, wait till DMV witholds the registration (may be empty threat) then reconsider 1-4 above
LOL I was thinking the same thing but since I had not read any posts about the flash since summer I wasn't sure. Last summer some owners were reporting loss of power issues etc. I don't run a programmer or smarty so no issues there. The general idea last summer was they were using this communication issue as a smoke screen for being able to download data from the truck etc.
So " Oops" i must have lost the notice is in order. You only have to smog every 2 years so I won't need to do it again until summer 2012. Thanks for the help!

I got the notice about 2 weeks before my tags were up... lucky me... I ignored it and everything went fine without dealer intervention. I'm still ignoring them. LoL
The last notice I got, I replied with copies of my smog paperwork and told them I like the truck getting 24 mpg and passed smog so having anybody mess with it was not in the cards. Thanks anyway though for your concern that it might have issues. It doesnt so no further notices are necessary...
haven't heard anything since then.
Let sleeping dogs lie... my mom always told me... so... I'll ignore them until I cant.

A Dodge tech posted here that he's seen no adverse effects of the KO1 reflash to date. It will require me to update my Smarty to be compatible,so I'll hold off until 12-2011 when my first smog is due.
Any more updates on this recall? I am going in next week to have it done. My truck does not require a smog test, but DMV won't process my registration until the recall has been performed! Thanks.

One guy posted that even with the latest Smarty update which addresses the K01 update,he still can't load his Smarty up. MADS is working on another one. Makes you wonder if Dodge has engineered something into the K01 to prevent tuner use. I can't imagine life without Smarty.
cgraham,
I was in the same boat a couple of months ago. No smog test here in north eastern CA, but no registration unless the recall was completed. I went ahead and and had it done and haven't had any issues so far. I don't run any tuner on mine and also I've got the ST, so I don't have keyless or other bells and whistles that others have complained about malfunctioning after the recall. Maybe they have the recall ironed out now. I told the service writer that I've heard horror stories about this recall, ( horn honking in reverse, mileage decreases, lights flashing, etc) he said "don't worry".

Failures have been I think from tech error. If not done exactly will cause a problem with skim code transfer. Updating WCM improperly will cause a no start. keys and Node will need to be replaced since secret code was loss and is no longer stored in PCM. Use wiTECH and POD to flash PCM is the safest way to go. It will display on screen warning that that will tell you this and it applies to 5.9 diesel trucks only.
The DMV threat is very real. It is not a thingie that the person behind the counter can help with really. This is done programatically; once the info is sent in from the dealer that this was done and x-referenced to the vin the release is keyed into the reg program allowing the registration to take place.
