Just traded off 6.7L
It sounds like they are ruining, the diesels with all the new polution junk they are forceing the auto companies to install. I wonder how the big rigs are doing with all the new junk that's required on them.
honestly, i would probably go with the pacbrake if i could do it over...however, i got my jake off ebay. it was brand new in and unopened box to my door for around $700. couldnt pass up that deal! it works ok. its sent me sideways on wet roads more than once
.
maybe ive just gotten used to it, but it doesnt seem as powerful as it used to. i would just go with the pac unit and enjoy the onboard air for air tools, air horns, and to inflate tire, but that just my .02

5.9l 2007 48re with exhaust
Just purchased 3500 larimie had dodge install it the exhaust brake. Was going to wait until 2009 to buy
but heard and read a lot of the same stories about the 6.7l. Some have been great probably don't hear much from them.
What really convinced me was they were running out of the 07 5.9l and was concerned about all the emision controls on 6.7l Lokked under the hood of both, what a difference.
Only have 500 miles on it but love it. Just learning fron you knowledgeable guys as to what to get and how to take care of it. Got Linex, nerff bars, and a chrome locking gas cap.
I guess the next item will be gauges what do you recommend.
Thanks from the beginner

No real way to tell as I hear it. First off, there are very few real '07 spec engines out there yet. Big pre-buy on '06's and even the manufacturers purchased a whole slug of '06 engines to put in later build trucks, which the law allowed them to do as long as they disclosed it.
So far, the majority of the new trucks are still coming out with the old engines, built previous to 1-1-07 because everyone is scared to death of the new stuff and sales are so far off (Volvo last month was off 76% or so from a year earlier?) because of the pre-buy and slow freight that there are very few of the new engines running around out there.
I read somewhere that 40% of the intake air on the new HD engines is actually cooled exhaust gases. How well could they run? No oxygen in exhaust gas and you still have to pay the energy penalty to compress it in the cylinder. As I understand it, the HD engines won't be worth a **** until the 2010 models that will use urea injection to clean up the emissions. The stuff is supposed to work so well that they can abandon the bulk of the rest of the emissions equipment and essentially run pre-2002 spec engines with urea injection and meet the 2010 specs. If that's true, they'll start to get their efficiency back to what it used to be, which was much better than it is now. And, they'll have the rest of the good hardware, (better pistons, better oil control, bigger cranks, rods, bearings and cooling systems, higher injection pressures etc.) that had to be offered in order to make the newer **** run at all. Then we'll really have some durable and economical engines that make real power too! Can hardly wait....

So what you're saying is I need to be REALLY nice to my 4.5 until 2012 or 2013? I think I can manage that....
I don't have any inclination to go run out and buy one of the 6.7's right now...
Any of you guys unhappy with your truck just come trade it in near me so I can get a deal on it and let you loose all the money. Any Black Laramie 4x4 LB duallies bring them on down to my area and trade them in....... I'll take that deal.....
Yea I wasn't too thrilled about all the emissions junk either so thats why I hurried up and bought an 07 5.9 in electric blue with the 6-speed. I prolly won't buy a 6.7 until someone comes out with a programmer that will disable the dpf and egr and all the emissions junk, and I can put a regular turbo on it and take off that VGT turbo. You know, pretty much like the 5.9's are except with just 6.7 liters of displacement instead of 5.9.

i dont know i have nothing but problems with my 07 and dodge will try to void your warranty with gauges on it. they are trying to do that with mine since it has the bullydog monitor on it. my 5.9 07 has been nothing but a pos. has put a real bad taste in my mouth on anything dodge.
