Just traded off 6.7L

I just traded my 6.7L for the new truck in my sig. I am really excited to have one of the 5.9L trucks as the 6.7L was a constant problem and in the shop all the time. What mods would you guys recommend starting out with on this truck?

I did the same thing you did and I have been happy every since. The fuel mileage is about a 5 mpg difference.

What problems were you having? I just hate to hear that the 6.7 Cummins are having as many problems as the PowerStroke was/is.

First mod should be gauges. I would suggest a pyro, boost, tranny temp, and definetly fuel pressure. Than look into an intake and maybe a downloader. Most guys on here favor the Smarty, but I have the BullyDog PowerPup and love the power. Congratulations on your new truck.

I would've loved to have gotten a 6.7 but Micro$soft taught to me to NEVER buy the first version of anything - when I take my family & travel trailer on vacations I need maximum reliability and the 5.9 seems to have plenty of power already.

Its all with the emmissions stuff. Which is not what all the problems were with the 6.0. Don't compare it like that.

Not making anything about it, but if your truck is in the shop enough to trade it for a last generation model, thats just bad. I dont care what anyone says, its just as bad as any other make when you have one problem after another.

Now for the OP, what were the issues?

I had it in the shop 8 times with a variety of problems from electrical issues with the overhead and ignition switch to multiple problems with the emissions system and the turbo failed at 6500 miles which of course took out the exhaust brake. Then the truck started randomly dying at particularly inconvenient times. The dealership said they were sure they could fix it but I lost confidence in that truck. I also averaged 12-13 mpg highway which was frustrating. I will miss three things about the truck a great deal. They are the amazing power the awesome six speed auto, and the exhaust brake. I cannot wait until the issues with the emissions garbage is resolved. It is an awesome combination. I am very excited about the new truck though I averaged 18.7 on my first trip with it, power seemed less than my 6.7L but it was still impressive, and it is a very nice looking truck. I am looking forward to having fun with some mods...

I have tried both and I would take the 6.7 over the 6.0 any day of the week even though I had problems with my 6.7.

Back in 2006, when I started reading about the 'then coming' 6.7's and all the emission stuff, that was enough to motivate me ore into buying the 2006. I was not sure if the first 2007's would be equipped with the 6.7/emissions and frankly was NOT taking any chances. I got busy real quickly into looking at new trucks and buying one.

As far as a 6.7 Dodge over the 6.0 Ford, I was Ford loyal for close to 40 years, but the 6.0 was not going to be in my next new truck. I was certain I was giong to buy a Dodge with the Cummins, just had planned on it maybe in 2007 or 2008. I am so glad I bought the 2006 with the 5.9, GREAT truck and none of the emissions stuff.
