I have a 2007 5.9 ctd should I be using the ci-4 or the cj-4 engine oil?

I did read all the posts on it,I just couldnt understand if the distinction was between the 2006 model year and the 2007 or if it was between the 5.9 ctd and the 6.7 with the particulate filter.thanx

 

Either one is OK in the 5.9's. There's still some discussion as to how long the change interval should be with the CJ-4 though. I think the current consensus is if you're using CI-4, then change every 7500-15000 miles, depending on use, and if you're using CJ-4, change every 5,000 miles. Again, this is for the 5.9 engines.

Yep, thats the consensus, and if it makes you feel any better there is a guy over on TDR that has been using the shell rotella CJ 15/40 Triple protection product for 22,000 miles and UOA's are coming back good still. Put the CJ worries aside!!

 

5.9 ci-4 and cj-4 are ok.............
6.7 cj-4 only.........very important by the way for the 6.7...

 

you probally only going to be able to find cj-4

 

Valvoline will soon be out with their Premium Blue Classic 14W40 that will be the standard CI+4 blend. Should hit the shelves in a few weeks. That is what I will run in my 5.9 from here on out.
