just got my registration renewal in the mail SMOG TEST REQUIRED!

my wife opened it and couldn't believe it. right across the top of the dmv's letter it states, SMOG TEST REQUIRED. my registration on my 06 also went up over $150 this year! why the hell is the governor dumping so much of the burden of straitening out the California state deficit on diesel truck owners? anyone had one of these "diesel smog tests yet"? and any idea what they cost? when I bought my truck in 06 I was told by the dodge dealer and by the dmv there were no smog tests required. that's part of the reason I went diesel. can't we all start a lawsuit to get this reversed somehow ?? just another expense to throw on the pile of ridiculous expenses that come from living in California...

One of many reasons we moved out of CA. I think CA is just making sure the owners haven't removed any smog devices. Hay my tags cost $89. for the year for 16k weight. Good luck

Well it could be worse....

It could have been my state asking for smog checks!

Will you be grandfathered in??

Up here in BC they have a gov't program to test our vehicles, I think they gotta be 6 years old before they test them or something, didn't have to do my wife's 05 or my 06 this year.
Costs about 40 buck for the test I think.

They're doing away with the tests soon I hear, soon as they do my cat's coming off.

California wanted like 500 bucks every year to re-register my truck. Need less to say I got tags back in Texas. 86 bucks a year!

I might register mine in Oregon under my Grandma so I don't have to support our POOR state. This just stinks they charged me 60 dollars to register a 1987 50cc honda spree scooter that weighs about 160 pounds. Maybe if thay drug tested people on welfare and such and budgeted money better we as tax payers wouldn't have this burden.
This makes me MAD

Plus they are attempting to turn the internal combustion engine into a air purifier.

The EPA has classified CO2 as a pollutant. You are now polluting the air by the simple act of breathing.

The important factor is getting an experienced smog guy who also owns and maintains his diesel so you can get an honest test. The subjective nature of the snap test is what worries me. Fortunately,I'm 20 months away from mine.

You can thank Feinstien, Pelosi, Gov. Arnold (RINO) and all the environmental lobbyists. Also Al Gore, I'm sure he makes a good percentage off of every smog test done in this country. Don't mean to start a political debate, but, it's crystal clear how "off kilter" people like them are!!
