Bought a jake from e-bay that was dealer installed, now I need the instructions to get it mounted. Thank you for any info.garr_trenching

Smile How long to install

How long would it take a shade tree mechanic to install? Any tips? If I decide too big a project has anyone had it installed at a Cummins Service facility and what was the cost? Thanks! This is a great site!

It seems to me that it took 4 or 5 hours, but I took my time and spent a while going over the directions and looking things over before I started.

As I recall the directions said to remove both front wheels and inner fenders, but you don't need both off at the same time. Getting the belt on and off was quite a pain. I think I found it easiest to get it off the alternator pully.

Although only one battery needs to be removed (to attach the selinoid valve) make sure both are disconnected. You have to unhook connectors to tap keyed power, and to add a couple pins to one of the sockets on the computer, and there was a thread a while back where a shop apparently messed up the computer by unhooking things while the truck still had power...

I'd also snug the band clamp between the turbo and jake a bit snugger than specified.

I can't think of any other tips at the moment. I'm sure others will chime in.

Dont install the gasket until you have the brake in position and the pins lined up or you wil trash the gasket.

No offense. The Jacobs is very likely a quality brake, but after reading through those directions, my PacBrake was definitely an easier install.

I installed my Jacobs Brake in my driveway in about 5-6 hours....It is not really hard just time consuming since I didn't remove either of the front wheels (only the wheelwells). The only issues I had were; 1) getting the exhaust brake situated without destroying the gasket (make sure you install the clamps before situating the exhaust brake) - played with it for about 20 minutes and, just when I was ready to take a break, it fell right in LOL. Then it took about five minutes to situate the gaskets onto the tabs. 2; Since I know me pretty good, I checked, checked and checked to make sure I was putting the wires into the proper location on the ECM. Of course once I installed the wires properly, I laughed at myself for being such wuss...lol
I disconnected the ECM for ease of installation. It comes out real easy with an allen wrench. 3; the new fan belt. Routing it was easy, getting it on was kind of a pain until I got my long 1/2 inch breaker bar - then I was able to hold the tensioner down much easier and the belt slid right on.

The vacuum pump/connections and the wiring connections are a breeze. If you haver any mechanical ability at all, you can do this installation.....just take your time and go slow, double and triple checking everthing as you work.

I also used wire loom for a "factory" look and to keep the wires and hoses free from crud and such.

If you run in to any problems just ask.

i started mine at work one day and once i got the brake in postition, i was in a bad mood so i took it to the dealer to finish. i destroyed the gasket...ordered a new one for $52 and was told they are not needed! also if dodge installs it, it will carry the same 3/36 warranty as the truck. if i cold do it over again, i would go with a pacbrake. the jake doesnt work very good in my opinion

my brake came from ebay. the ecm wires were cut so a quick trip to cummins for two pin repair kits at $12 were in order. Got the instructions from jake web site, took 3-4 hrs wasn't too bad other than the belt. Belt work requires extra time or hurt fingers.
