Jacobs Brake

What's the consenses on the Dodge mounted Jacobs Brake on the 48r tranny ?
I had one on my 01 with an automatic and wasn't particually impressed with it. I had a D-cellerator on my 03 with the 6 speed and that was great.
Heading for Montana and northern Ca with the 06 towing THE 46 FOOT GOOSENECK in a few weeks and would really like to get an exhaust brake installed before i leave.

I use mine all the time! Deceleration around town is like a gasser! Work with cruise control to maintain setpoint when going through the hills.

I wouldn't consider a diesel without one...manual or auto!

Dad got one on his 06 with the 48 and I'm really impressed with it. The only thing that doesn't seem right is the fact that it shuts off at about 20 MPH, I suppose because the convertor becomes unlocked. It downshifts with the tranny and pulls back quite well though. It is aslo very quiet compared to my Pac Brake compressor.

Just had a chance to try mine out. Gross combined weight of truck and trailer is 22000 lbs. The Jacobs will hold the truck at 70 mph in 3rd gear on a 6% grade. Anything steeper than that requires occasional use of service brakes. Works great with cruise control. Overall I am happy with it.

I know it is almost a necessity if you pull heavy a lot, but what do you guys think about the exhaust brake if you run mostly empty, but lots of down hill driving? Has anyone figured out how many service brake replacements to break even on the exhaust brake? Cummins Western Canada quoted me about $1300 for the part only, plus install.

Mine was billed out as a $1200 dollar dealer installed option - it was there when I purchased the truck.

i utilize mine most all the time aside from when noise might be a concern. It is especially nice when coming back from Lake Tahoe - loaded or empty.
